Cellphone: How important is it for you? Can you live without it?

I believe that nowadays, cellphone is no longer just a trend in fashion or technology, or something that you want. But it has become a necessity or something that you need. Almost everyone that I know, both young and not-so-young, has at least one unit that he/she carries around anywhere.. I keep in touch with my friends and relatives in and out of the country thru cellphone, coz not all of them know how to operate a computer, but know how to use a cellphone. And it's very handy, espcially in case of emergency. So, how important is your cellphone for you? Can you live without it?

I use my cell phone quite a bit but surely I can live without it. I use it primarily for business and sometimes to catch up with friends as well. I do not sure all the functions on my cell phone nonstop- such as texting, and I do not use it as an alarm clock either. My cell phone is important, not essential and I still have various alternative methods to communicate with others! I agree with you, cell phones are very handy for emergencies but there are still others ways to communicate to other people.

I use the alarm feature of my cellphones, coz I don't get up easily using my alarm clock, probably because I got used to the sound of it already. lol! But with my cellphones, I can change the alarm sounds anytime.. (just trying to fool myself, I guess.. hahah)

I'm not sure that I could live without my cellphone. I have one of those smart phones so that I could have the freedom of mobility and still get many thing done. My smartphone has internet capabilities too so it keeps me close to myLot. Just kidding I'm not that much of an addict yet. But my phone is really important as far as the calendar goes. All of my doctor appointments, meetings, parties, etc. are scheduled into my mobile outlook calendar and I can send requests to the necessary participants. I have an alarm set to go off to remind me to take my medicines. The reminders are a great feature because you can remind yourself of up and coming birthdays so you don't do last minute shopping. I agree with you that many relatives don't know how to use the computer yet. My aunt is still figuring out how to view my pictures on facebook. I have yet to receive an e-mail from her. My uncle in Brazil doesn't always have internet but he calls on his cell phone occasionally to see how I'm doing. If he didn't have the cell phone we would never keep in touch. Peronaave, where is your family from? Have you ever thought about getting a camera for their computer and having someone computer savvy in that country to walk them through making a call to you over the internet using the camera?

Hi, OceanZealot! My brother, aunt and cousins who live with my parents, all know how to use the internet. My parents actually bought a webcam for their computer, but, funny coz they don't use it. Mom said, she doesn't want to be in front of a computer coz it hurts her eyes more than reading text messages on her cellphone, and by the way, she has 2 units..hahaha.. I guess she just got used to it, and got contented with it already so she does not want to learn further.. I don't really know.. But thanks! Maybe one of these days, I'll be able to push them into using the net to get in touch with me. ^_^

Cellphone very important for me. I'm not sure i can live without it. I have 2 cellphone. One i used to communicate with my bussines partner and the other to communicate with my family and my friends. It's easier for me to keep communicate with every people. Once time, i've a meeting with an important bussines partner. It's important meeting for me. Suddenly, my family call me and told me they face an emergency situation. Of course i've put my family on top priority. I told my partner i'll call him soon. When i get to my family and solve the problems, i only call him with my cellphone and continue our discussing via phone call. And it's done just with a phone call. With cellphone i can handle 2 important situations for my life. That's why i think i can't live without cellphone.

although having a mobile phone is important to me as it enables me to communicate with people but i think i could live without it as i'm not really a heavy user. i know some people who can't live without their phones, like their lives depend on it or something- they're on the phone 24/7

I got my first cellphone as a gift from my mom when I was still a student, so I wouldn't have any reasons not to inform them where I'd be and when I'd go home back then.. hahah..

You're probably right in not needing a cellphone yet since you're still a student, like what you said.. But I see a lot of people, who say they are poor', and yet have at least one unit of cellphone at home - the one with simple features like calling and text messaging only.
