There are so many things to think about and plan before your get pregnant. My daughter and her husband was told of their "once in a lifetime chance" to save their baby's umbilical cord blood to be used if needed later to save their life.
When her baby was born it would not have hurt her or her baby to take umbilical cord blood because it would have been discarded anyway. You know you want to do everything you can to make sure your baby grows up to be healthy and this seems to be a very smart idea.
I really do not think there is an issue with cord blood banking itself but I think it's more about banking blood in a for-profit private cord blood bank for a family's own use. I know that you can donate your baby's blood in a public bank for free. I'm really not sure which way to go with this and not sure of the whole idea anyway. Does anyone have any commends on the subject of your babies cord blood banking idea? should you or should you not, etc.

I remember watching a documentary about this. It seems to me to be a really good idea, and you may as well do it - there's nothing to lose and if it does save the baby's life in future, then thats even better.

I agree their is nothing to lose! It could end up being that the cord blood saves your child's life! I'm just lucky that her in Canada like most health care related things it's free :)

When I had my daughter in June of 2006 they automatically banked my daughter's cord blood. Here in Canada they automatically do it and it doesn't cost anything! I am so glad that they do that because if my daughter ever falls really ill it could save her life one day!
