Will paid for sign up offers do any harm?

Well,today I saw a ptc site where they have some,paid to sign up offers which would earn $0.1 for a sign up and I can see more offers there.Do they just give us that amount for just signing up or there are any hooks?Will we end up with viruses or any spam mails?Please explain.Cheers!
