My husband as some of you know has been battling for his SSDI benefits. He went to see there doctors a couple of weeks ago. Do you know how long it takes to get a descision after seeing the doctors. Do you think it will be long before we know if hes approved or not? How long did it take you?

I have never had to apply for these type of benefits but my best friend and her husband have been battling for over 3 years and had countless doctor visits and tests done but are still not finished or been approved. I think they should get a lawyer who handles this type of problem because the worry is not helping their medical problems.

Back in 1985 when I first signed up for it because of my arthritis it took me just 6 months to get it. I believe it depends on the Dr that you start with. I only had to see my primary rhuematoligist and one other. I was pretty well flat on my back at the time. I got better and lost it after 2 years. But the next time I applied for it after about 15 years it only took a couple of months and seeing only one other DR.

it depends, now I am in canada but what I gather from all the people in the usa I know that is on it, it can take up to three tries and you may need to get a lawyer.

i guess it also depends on what the problem is because when my son got on it for adhd, odd he got it in 20 days .come to find out a year later he had bipolar also...heres what else your husband can do keep track of his records that way he has them knows when he signed up what dr he seen and when.

I'm sorry to hear that you husband is battling that. The thing I've read up when researching about that for regarding my husband's brother is that one should probably have an attorney to deal with the legal issues, and keep the process moving. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/apps/firststep/content/ssdi-qa.html http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/index.htm Here are some websites that hopefully can help you out. I wish you all the best. Namaste-Anora

It took my mom 2 years of going to doctors and meetings and finally she had to hire an attorney before she was accepted. Never give up the first time they tell you no. They do that to see if you are serious. Call your person at least once a week, no matter what.
