Viszla - A really beautiful dog breed!

I'm writing a story that features a Viszla (dog breed) and I need a real powerhouse name for HIM! It is a male:P I want a name that people will remember (like Old Yellar, Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, etc). I won't say what the story is about, but I will say the dog is very important...he's one of the heroes. It's a sad story--you could say the dog is ill fated throughout...but he is still a very lovable, respectable character. So I want only the best name for him! And I'd really like to hear some other peoples opinions! Thanks! (To help you with inspiration I've added a picture of the breed so you know how amazingly beautiful they are!)

My personal favourite would be Zima. This is the Russian word for winter and, after the recent winter we've had in N. America, it would indicate something quite powerful.

That could be a good idea. I was actually planning on having a scene in the story where my main character is looking up foreign words to find a good name for him. Thanks! :D

In my novels, the name of the spaceship is Vesna -- spring, significant of a new beginning.

That really is a beautiful dog! I agree that a good strong name would help immortalize the hero of your story. These are the ones I found: Victor(V for Viszla and Victory), Falk, Hudson, Baxter, Rudolf, Napoleon, Ullysses, Grendel, Fang, Brutus, Cabal(King Arthur's dog's name), Dante, Euripides, Jasper, Klondike, Rocket, Sven, Svengali. Some are better than others. I hope I gave you a brilliant idea for the perfect name.

Falk means Falcon or pertaining to Falconry in German and Yiddish.

Dante is a great name, defeniatly strong sounding. I like Falk too. I don't know why lol. I just like the sound of it. Does it mean something? O.o Cabal is defeniatly a great suggestion considering he was already a greta dog in history! Thank you!

What a beautiful dog. Looks like a take charge dog so my choices would be Sargeant, General or the General. Another name that might be of some interest is Mister and add a last name. Some name with authority would grab the attention of the readers since he is a hero. Good luck with your story. Would like to read it once you're finished.

I love this breed! It's so beautiful! And I wanted to use a breed that hasn't already been idolized in a movie--so that disqualified german shepherds, dalmations, collies, labs, retrievers--and it left me with a few breeds. But Vizsla's are so beautiful...and I think they are the perfect size and body type (not too big not too small) that it would be good for ideas I have for my story. I like the idea of having the name "Mister" something--if I can think of a good strong word to follow :D Although I think General, Sergeant, Corprol and all the army ranks are good names...I just get the feeling that they are used a lot, and I want a kind of unique name. Thank you carol!

Since this dog belongs to the sporting dog, and I love basketball. I recommend names like Kobe or Jordan. Maybe Arthur is also cool. Well, those are just what I can think of. Hope it helps.
