Blogs and making money ?

So what sites do you have a successful blog on? I"m sure they pay you for the ads and how popular your blog is or isn't. And what are the topics you've done well on as far as your blog goes or do you just base your blog on your daily activities ect? Any particular rules as far as posting links to your favorite sites or bargains ect?
