I typed in HR875 into my search field after checking out a politcal discussion on mylot and did not like what I was seeing. Our government (USA) wants to control gardening now. This may not effect everyone as they bad as the small farmers who sell their produce at Farmers Markets but it can and might effect the heirloom seed availablity and they are saying that seed will be closely monitored. I do not like what I am hearing at all. The prices of food are high and getting higher as we speak and growing your own produce was a way to cut some of the cost. I had wanted to start a small orchard and vineyard in Western Iowa and now the government wants to even control what we grow. This is bad!

I've haven't heard of this and I'll have to investigat further and see what it is all about .. I hope that this doesn't effect the backyard farmers the ones that try and just suppliment the cost of fresh veggies .. I have no intention of selling anything that I grow. LOL!!!

Blegh, from the sound of the responders to this discussion it's gonna take a raid on a small farm who only sells at roadside stands and flea markets to get them concerned. Haven't we learned anything with broadly general bills?
I'm concerned. I've signed a petition against it, contacted my reps, blogged about and in general spread the word.
Bad definitely, I agree.

Sorry I haven't heard of this and will have to look into it. But I do hope this doesn not effect the back yard farmers who are just trying to cut cost of their own food bill.

Unless you have a major enterprise I wouldnt worry about it too much. I think there are many people who have problems with their food supply and I dont think the government is going to have tht much of a say as to what people are growing in their home gardens. It is something thta we need to think about with our gardens though.
