How much do you think the movie industry is hurting?

My fiance and I watched Hancock, a rented movie. The movie was really great, but that's not what this discussion is about. We watched the special features, and found that one of the people involved in the movie basically had stated that with the economy the way it is they have to work harder, and more sensibly. I guess you could say he didn't say all that, but what he did say made me think. How much do you think the movie industry is hurting because of the economy? Do you think they should concentrate more on making one movie really great instead of making a lot of movies good? Do you think movie making should go on a standby? What do you think should be done to save money for movie producers? What do you think should be done to also be green (environmentally)?

I don't think the movie industry is hurting at all. In fact I have seen many news reports saying the exact opposite. Movie ticket sales are up from last year. Ironically the fact that people have less money does not hurt an industry that requires them to spend frivolously. People want to see movies to escape for two hours. I guess they are not willing to give that up even if a ticket does cost $10 a piece. I personally haven't been to the movies in over 3 months. I can't afford to go and would need to spend my money on things like food. I was a little surprised to see that ticket sales were up in the US.

I can't that I wasn't aware ticket sales were up, I think I have actually heard that they were, and had just forgotten! So thanks for reminding me! As for me, it doesn't really matter, I hate going to the movies except for once or maybe twice a year. I guess it all depends on the movie too. So much more fun to wait and get it on video anyway. I appreciate the response.

This is a really good discussion baby and I am sure there are a lot of people out there who have an opinion when it comes to the movie industry and how bad they are hurting some people probably think they are hurting really bad since they are coming out with some crappy movies, and then I am sure there are some people who think the movie industry is not hurting, and I can understand why people would think the way they do,and I remember when we watched Hancock and it was a really good movie and I remember when the guy on the special features was talking about how they had to be more sensible since the economy is so bad,I think the movie industry is about like everything else they are hurting bad,and that is why some movies are not as good as they could be,and why you do not see as many movies coming out,and I think they should concentrate on one great movie instead of several good movies, and I think they should try to find ways to make movies while helping the environment like using solar powered equipment and reusing movie props instead of making new ones,I love you with all my heart and soul, have a great day, good luck with all your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

Hello my dear Cowgirl. I can't say that i am qualified to speak about this field to much, but i can say that in the last months i have been more active than ever going to the movies, and buying movies (even if most were older than the current year). I think that making best movies - or block-busters is a perfect way for us, viewers, but if good movies wouldn't existed at all, the cinema's would only have about 2-3 movies instead of 8-10 or more. About the green field of making movies, i think not hurting nature (trees, other plants, animals) is a good way for it.
