Have you ever worked for a car hop? Would you care to share your (good & bad) experiences? Here's the back story: the company I work for has implemented this new "curb-side service" to try to get business to get a little better, but I'm totally bummin'. Our jobs are busy enough without this menial task to take care of, let alone the fact that the crazy weather that Minnesota has will probably leave me as one sick, drenched, car-hopper (or whatever you call 'em. LOL). Can anyone please share their experiences? Do you find car hops to be super stressful, or is it something you get used to over time? Do you think it's a good way for a business to reach new customers, or is it totally a waste of time? Thanks in advance!

yep I sure have , actually in 3 different places lol its not that bad really just like being a waitress and you earn better tips ;) it was really good cause we were paid the regular pay and not the waitress pay so we really didnt need the tips they were just a bonus :) the only thing I didnt like about it was that some people at the last one I worked at got all upset if I did too well andf thought thier jobs were in danger , lol I was like please you really think this is a career for me ? oh well such is life , but yea some people come just for the fact that they get curb side service afte all if your going to go thru the drive thru and eat in your car you may as well sit back and relax instead of wolfing down the food . lol besides have you ever tried to eat a salad when your driving ?? lol not fun ~M~

Thanks for your input. I didn't even know that we might get tips. There might be an upside to this after all!

When I was in the ninth grade I was a car hop at a drive in restaurant. It definitely had pluses and minuses but all in all it was ok - I would think it was better than waitressing in a regular restaurant in the summer time. It would suck in the winter and it was terrible in the wind. Tips might be more plentiful because it's just easier than waiting for you to go inside and make change! One thing about being a car hop at a restaurant is it's actually easier in some respects because people turn their lights on to order or let you know they're done so there's no guessing.
