corinna, even if I can't be absolutely certain how long this economic downturn may truly last, I guess by simply looking at the t.v. and hearing all the talking heads pontificate how bad it will really be in the coming days (as if it's not bad enough as it is), I could truly only surmise that it may take a long time, if talking heads were to be believed. As to what will help, I feel that the collaborative effort of everyone will. The media, most importantly, should do its part in policing its ranks and tempering the doomsday rhetoric a bit, as such does not really help in restoring the confidence of the people in the economy. What needs to be restored are the trust and confidence of the people in their government, the economy, and the various institutions (financial, most especially) that contributed to this mess. With its power and influence, the media can crucially play a vital role to gradually restore the confidence of the various stakeholders in their institutions. That said, it is worth repeating that everyone has something to contribute to help clean up this mess and hopefully bring back much needed jobs in US soil. Just my 2 cents.
