My Beta's Keep Dying! :(

Okay....I got a Beta fish a few years ago and he's still alive-still going strong. But of the last 6 beta's I've gotten, 5 have died--and I wouldn't be surprised it the 6th one died too. They seem fine one minute and then the next thing I know they're dead! :( I take good care of them- I dont over/under feed them, they have good room in their tanks, and i do NOT put them together lol. I know that's a big no no for beta's. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows why they would be dying so suddenly. I'm wondering if it's possible the little rocks I bought to go in their tanks could be the cause. Could the rocks be killing my fish? Because the one I have had for a few years never had rocks in his bowl, and all the ones that have died did have them. So should I take the rocks out of my 6th beta's bowl? Thanks

You may have something with your theory on the rocks. Have you tried asking someone at the pet store where you got the fish what they think the problem could be? If the rocks are the only difference between the two environments and how you were caring for the fish then you could be right.

I thought of getting one after I read your discussion. I used to see them in these clear vases with a plant in the top. I like the idea of low maintenance but I wonder how long it can feed off the plant. How long do they live?

I would take the rocks out and at the VERY least, run boiling water thru them several times. I would also be sure to wash the bowl really well and make sure it can't be harboring anything harmful in it. of course, they don't take the best care of them in some places so you might want to consider getting your fish at a different place, maybe a fish store rather than an ordinary pet store

I think I'm gonna leave the rocks out when I clean his tank tonight. And I cleaned all the tanks before I even put any of my beta's in them, so I dont think it could be the tanks killin them :/
