Do you know someone who has this disease (or you may be the person) and no matter how closely you follow your regimen of meds and dietary guidelines they (or you) wind up getting sick? And then there are people who have a more controllable type who basically take advantage of the fact that they can control it if they really wanted to? I know both types...and sometimes I think how unfair life is to some people who actually do what they are supposed to and still it is hard for them to have a comfortable life....I know that's how it goes sometimes but it makes you think about life much deeper when you know someone who such a silent strength to endure so much....

I am a diabetic and have been since high school. I started getting really thirsty for no reason and when I passed out at school, the nurse there called 911 and had me taken to a hospital. My blood sugar was about 400 when I was diagnosed. It took a while to regulate my insulin levels, but so far, I haven't had any problems. When I was pregnant with our daughter, my sugar levels got a bit out of whack, but nothing I couldn't handle. I had a healthy baby girl born via c-section. I don't have a strict diet that I have to follow. I'm generally not a person who eats a lot of sweets anyway, but I love Mountain Dew and Pepsi. So I always have one of those for breakfast and usually with my lunch. That's about my only guilty pleasure I have when it comes to food.
