ear stapled?

Has anyone ever heard of having a staple placed in your ear to quit smoking? Its supposed to be placed on a nerve and prevent your cravings. I knew someone that had it done and while the staple was in place they had no problem not wanting a cigarette but I haven't talked to them in a while so I don't know if they continued not smoking after it was removed.
