The internet started as a common portal where people can share information across the network within the military confines. And with the evolution of technology, the internet became a common tool for people all over the world to share infomation.
From stories to news to blogs to views and reviews, you can find literally anything on the internet. It has also become the source of income for many people as well.
With the internet becoming so popular, many mobile devices like laptops and handphones are also becoming increasingly popular with many users to surf the net.
If you have the capability to get a PC surfing experience on your handset, would you subscribe to such a service so that you can surf the web via your handphone?
What if the service is free, would you start to use your handphone more to surf the web?
What would it take for you to choose a handphone over other means of mobile computing to get you to surf the web?
Do share your views.

I dun think i will go mobile even though it's free. Because i have to take into conideration of my battery life, as well as loading time if i were to surf on my mobile.. ON top of that, if one wants to go mobile, they have to get one which has got a huge screen so that they can see more clearly..
But with the technology now, everything is downsizing in size, and it's not gonna be easy to find a phone with big screen.. lol =D And for me, i need to go back for ICT, and it's gonna be so troublesome for me to give up on a surfing phone for 3 weeks when i've gotten used to it?? lol =D

If going back to camp is the issue, one of my favorite handset is the G900 from sony!
They came up with the non camera version. And it is targeted at people who want a high end phone, but cannot due to security restrictions in the places that they work in.
It is a very good phone. The screen is large enough for comfortable surfing. And the touch screen on this baby is just sweet!

That seems tempting enough, but my ICT venue is somewhere with very poor reception.. lol =D Sometimes i need to stand at certain spots, facing certain angle, before i get 1-2 bars of signal.. haha =D It's too troublesome for me.. hehe ^_^
BUt once my ICT is over, i will definitely get such a phone, maybe in about 5 yrs time?? lol =D

i can surf the internet on my mobile phone. i had a subscription to mobile internet but i decided it's not for me. the screen is so small that some sites just can't be seen properly. also, it's much more difficult to type on a mobile phone compared to a proper keyboard. the mobility is a plus but i'd much rather use my laptop as far as possible.

Hmm... what handphone are you using?
For surfing the web on the handset, it is better to have a higher end one, where the screen is larger.
I have tried so many of them. And my all time favorite has gotta be the iPhone and the HTC Touch Pro 2! Man, these are simply the best when it comes to mobile surfing!
Big screen, intuitive touch screen. And the Touch Pro 2 has a pretty big QWERTY to boot!
If only I could hold on to it for a little while longer!

i'm using the apple iphone now. the screen is something like 3" which is still small to me. i agree that it is intuitive and great to use. however, there are certain websites that requires flash and java which is not accessible. also, i type at least three times faster on a normal keyboard. that's why i prefer to surf on a laptop or desktop.
however, if i'm overseas i'll use my mobile phone coz i don't want to lug my laptop there. checking emails is a breeze on the iphone.

Though technology of mobile phones have become more advanced with built-in feature-packed browser, higher security to protect personal information, I belong to the category who would use a mini notebook which is light enough to carry around to access the internet on the go. I would never use mobile phone to access since the data rate is expensive. Sometimes I do use my PSP to surf the web.

It would take a lot, such as not being able to use any other means to connect to the internet. I've tried using my cell phone internet service for emails, maps and such but get so frustrated because it takes so long to load plus the tiny screen is hard to read, sometimes having to scroll not only up and down, but also left to right.
I have a laptop but even that is bulky and heavy for me after awhile of carrying it. I'd love to settle for a middle-of-the-road type of thing like a tablet.
I have a GPS navagation tool on my cell phone and do like that feature. Although I haven't used it as yet, it's reassuring to know that I can turn to it if the need ever arises.
But, as far as complete internet usage, nope, I just couldn't do it unless it was the ONLY thing available. I hope that day never comes, or I'll have to find some kind of huge magnifying device to attach to the screen!

Interesting. What handset are you using now?
As for the scrolling left and right, up and down, I know what you mean.
But with better adaptation of the web pages on the server end, most of the scrolling you ever need to do these days are up and down.
I know of a local operator who upgraded their servers just to make it easier for users to surf the web on their handset. Even if you are using a legacy handset like a nokia 6230, you can still access the web with much ease and comfort.@ahgong (10064)

The chocolate is a nice phone.
And yeah, the wheel is a little sensitive.
Also, the phone has such a shiny surface, my hands are always leaving behind a lot of fingerprint smudges.
Something that I do not particularly fancy due to sweaty hands.
But that is a good phone.
Thanks for sharing!

I have an LG "Chocolate", although mine is metallic blue.
I like it because it's not nearly as complicated as some but there's one feature on it I especially DON'T like. It has a... I'm not sure what you call it... like a "wheel" on the front. If you touch this wheel anywhere on it, it takes you to another screen, and it's SO SENSITIVE! I'm always changing screens when I talk to anyone if I'm not using my earphone because my cheek decides it wants the phone on another screen. This is especially irritating if I'm "talking" to a recorded message that tells you to "press 1" or "press 2" over and over again. I have to go back to the previous screen (or two, or three) before I can press anything and make it work.
Ah, progress!

The service appears unique with minus as with anything else. Most Mobils have small screens. Surfing web via mobile phone can eye straining if it is done for a long period. Nevertheless, it can really exciting if one is away from PC for a long haul and can see mail box or other site at wish.

Yeah... but with the newer phones and better mobile browsers, surfing on the mobile is getting to be better and better in terms of experience.
Web pages are so much rendered these days compared to days of yore.
And yes, I know exactly what you mean when you can see your favorite web site when you are away from your computer for the long haul!
It is just sweet, isn't it?

You see lot of handphone's where we can surf the net but i would like to use handphones only when i am travelling and would like to do some stuff on the net because handphones are small and i don't feel comfortable with the keys on the handphone just like computer where you can type in any address quickly and finish the work easily but yah, though you can carry your laptop some times you feel like heavy luggage so both of them are equally important and thsts the reason, none of them are obsolete.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
But when I travel overseas, I rarely go online on my mobile.
The charges are just way to expensive for me to surf the web while roaming!
And the places where I go, there is very little free wifi hotspots to hook on to to get online.
Unless I have a lot activity to fill my time, it is really like going thru cold turkey when I cannot get online when overseas!

I have been without a mobile phone for a long time now; maybe about a year or so. Personally, I'd prefer it this way for a few reasons; including the fact that I won't be monitored by my spouse every now and then. He has a bad habit of checking in on me on a daily basis and I must admit that it irritates me so much because I tend to be disturbed from my work here in the office. I'm not a bad girl, mind you. Further, I think that currently, we don't need the mobile phone since my spouse and I are here together in the city, with our only child. Also, using either prepaid or postpaid phones require a considerable amount of funds to maintain.
But we are planning to purchase one when I finally receive my separation pay from my current employer; and just before we relocate ourselves to the province since cost of living there is much cheaper. If given a chance to buy my own cellular phone without my husband snooping on me, I prefer to have internet access so I could still check on my accounts, and eventually do mylot as well; since I'm not sure if we could push through with our plan of buying a computer set for our daughter.

Thanks for sharing that thought with me.
Yeah, I have been using my phone to surf the web for so long, I kinda take it for granted now.
So much so that I had forgotten the considerations that I took back then to get on to surfing the web on my phone.
With prices of PC dropping so much now, I am sure you will be able to find a good PC within your budget for your daughter! No worries!

I think I won't surf the net quite often by the mobile phone because the screen is small. Besides, some websites need to have some plug-in so that you can see the image and so on. Whereas you can't set it in your mobile phone. And the typing is not fast anyway. If you surf a complicated designed website, you will find it difficult to have a proper view from your mobile phone. So I just take advantage of the wifi to make a skype call from my cellphone most of the time. As to browsing the website, it's not what I usually do from my cellphone. The wifi can be free, but GPRS is not free of charge. If the service will be totally free, I will like it even if I don't use it so much.
I love China

If it was free, I would definitely subscribe, as I don't have internet access at home and sometimes I just need to check something quickly. Now, I occasionally access the internet on my phone, but it costs money per kb used. But there are limitations as to how much you can get on the small cell phone.

Yeah, I know that some sites are blocked. They are done due to some government regulations. Unless you are always surfing restricted sites, most of what is on the web is now accessible on the handset.
And with better phones and better mobile browsers, the experience is pretty good!
