Are you afraid of water... I travelled once riding on a boat and there were many passengers... its a big boat.. I was enjoying the sceneries.. the waters and small waves... But when we were already in the middle of the sea and the waves were becoming bigger I began to panic and I felt shortness of air that I could hardly breath.... I was thinking if the boat capsize what will happen to us... and then memories of a movie about Leonardo d Caprio and Kate Winslet, about getting drowned in the sea made it even more scary!! I was really scared ... its good that I was with my girl friend and finally reached our destination... alive! It was a relief!! I could not imagine riding a boat again!! I take the plane now whenever I travel.. Is this a normal thing.. Did you experience this before... How to get rid of this feeling...

In my waking hours I have no problem with water. I can swim and dive. I can hold my breath and swim further than all my friends. I even worked on a ferry in Lake Superior and even though I was motion sick for the first few days I had no fear of the water. But it's a whole different story when I go to sleep. I could dream of monsters and all kinds of things that would be a nightmare for most and it's great, like going to the movies but if for any reason I am in the water in my dreams it becomes the worst nightmare. I have no idea why I fear water in my dreams but not in my waking hours. Maybe I was drowned in another life. :)

I love water and I have ridden boats and enjoyed the experience it all throughout the trip. I think what you have was triggered by a very hyperactive mind and that triggered your fears. I think you've develop a phobia of some kind and if you could consult to a psychologist or psychiatrist to test you if you have acquired the phobia or not. Well for one who is determined to get rid of this you should expose yourself towards the fear itself do desensitize your fear out of it. Slowly going back to it would decrease you fear about it and gradually lessen the anxiety of riding the boat. For some this works but sometimes it does not so there is really no guarantee to it. It totally depends on you how determined you are in getting rid of that fear.

I love water. I grow up on a town near the sea i spend most of my childhood swimming and go fishing on the sea. I have an experience when i was in high school i go fishing with some of my friends. We rode the boat, the wave was to strong and the boat was just small that only ten person can ride but were just 5 then. So exciting like you are on a roller coaster. I also feel on the sea while I was riding a boat but because i grow on a town near the sea so i really know how to swim.

I can swim and that doesn't mean that I am not afraid of water. One must know to respect the forces of nature. One cannot fathom the power of the water. Once I went for a swimming with my friends into the sea in a catamaran. Everyone jumped into the sea and started swimming away from the boat and after sometime all of us started swimming back to the catamaran. That country boat was moving slowly towards the shore. I was just swimming towards it while all the others are already aboard. When I was about to reach and a few yards away from it I was already tired and found it difficult to make those final few strokes. Any however much I tried with all my strength the boat seemed to be moving away from me and for a moment it looked that I would never be able to touch that boat which was in fact moving very very slowly as I was completely out of air. A friend of mind offered his hands and I think only God has helped me to reach for it at that particular moment. The best part of it is no body seemed to know the ordeal I was undergoing. I never showed it in my face and kept buried it in my heart. And so I am indeed afraid of water.

I'm prone to panic attacks and that is what you had.. I have meds for my panic attacks and I have to say that I don't like boating and I don't like planes I like what I'm able to control and those I can't ... So I would have to seriously be on my meds for the day before and the day of.

We all have scare of something or other. Even I don't know to swim and I should be really afraid about it. Last month we all friends went to one fort which was an island means there was no other option other than ferry but I was not at all scared of it. But whenever I went in deep portion of the water I get scared. As far as your experience is concerned I think you should not avoid riding again. But there should be a strong reason for the next time then onwards you will be fine.

I was on my honey moon (week, no money) in Greece and of course we had some trips with the boat (it was such a junk), and that sea was very agitated. Almost a storm. Whatever. Me and my wife (she is from the seaside, I'm from the mountains) were right at the very peak (front part) of the vessel. Whatever, the funny part was that our guide, who was supposed to be there and tell us about all the islands, fauna, so forth, instead he was in the back of the boat, feeling sea-sick. We had such fun. There were other couples there, but only us and some 2 other friends were enjoying the ride. The others held tight to everything that they could catch....LOL! Oh boy, why? My phobia is only for doctors and mosquitoes (funny, no?) but come on, there are just waves. It's more dangerous to walk the streets nowadays. NO?

Yea, even I was a daring person to travel by boat long back. But once I read an article about a kid whose hands were caught by a crocodile in the river when she was enjoying the ride by waving the hands in water. This scared me and I'm on my nerves when I had to go for boating. What to do, small small things just keeps lingering in our minds and its pretty hard to get rid of them.

I may have the same feeling with you. I feel afraid even I stand in the bank of a little pond. That's because I had seen some scary movie about shark when I was a child.SO even now when I'm seeing the water which cannt be seen its bottom,I still have the feeling that there will jump out a big shark and bite me.So I think scary movie is bad for children...

I love water in all its forms I mean whether it be rain, drinking water, bathroom water(I can spent up to 3 hours bathing, the lake water or simply the Ocean. I would like to travel by boat one day and eventually I am looking forward to do that in the near future. You should not be afraid and start loving that.
