How humility saved my life

Humility is the best virtue I learned from my parents. This, I carried along from childhood until now. When I was still working in the city, my office then was located at the 17th and 19th floor. It has been customary of me to befriend the lowly employees like the janitors, the security guards, the messengers etc. despite the negative remarks coming from my officemates, asking why do I have to mingle with these people. I just shrugged my shoulder and continue showing good things to them. One day, as I arrived at our building, I greeted the guard casually with the usual, "Hi, good morning!" and did the same to the janitor whom I met at the corridor leading to the elevator. As it was still early then, I was alone in the elevator. When it moved a little higher, suddenly, the electricity went off and I got stuck somewhere else. By the way I was heavy with my 7 month baby inside me. I immediately thought of certain possibilities brought about by the situation I am in. If I give in to nervousness, my God, I might give birth inside or fainted. So I calmed myself down putting in mind that I am pretty sure someone knows that somebody's stuck inside the elevator. Five minutes passed by then I heard familiar voices, identifying me as the one inside. The technician did something then they forced open the door, and I saw my angels, the "lowly people" who immediately called for the technician knowing that I was stuck inside. Had I treated them arrogantly, they would not have dared saved me, right?

You may be very right. Unfortunately, we judge people by their outside cover. How do we know what that person's heart is like until we take time to get to know them. We are all on an even playing level when it comes to looking at our hearts. That takes time to get to know a person. Thank you so much for such an inspiring story.

You have every right to say hello to anyone that you choose. We are all equals no matter what our "job title" is. The sound like they are better people then the people from your office. They have no right to ask why you mingle with "those people". No matter what your job title is or how much money you make does not make you a better or worse person. We are all human. And I do believe that by being as friendly as you are to everyone it probobly did help for people to notice that something was wrong but I do believe that any decent human being whether they know the person or not would have done what they did and call for help. And anyone that would knowingly ignore the fact that there was an elevator stuck with someone in it and do nothing is heartless. Did you ever see the movie Pay It Back.(or Pay it Forward or something by McKully Kulkin) It is a great movie about doing good for people and if someone does something good for you then you have to pay it back by doing good for someone else. It would really make the world a much better place. Hve a great day.
