Self-sufficient or be an employee?

I always think if I had a farm with animals and vegetables, catch fishes in the ocean to be self sufficient, I can also make money on selling animals or vegetables in this way. No need to work for somebody and have my own farm. how nice? I'm sure it would be hard to start at the beginning but I think good stuff is always the last.
Which one would you prefer? Work for somebody or having your own farm?

you would never be truly self sufficient because you would have to go to the drs or the dentist. think about the late 1800's, life was hard and you really relied on your neighbours.
what i always wanted to do was to live in a shack on the beach and just write :-)

I have always been wishing to work on my own. My husband has the same ideals as mine. We both want to be the boss of our own business. I think it is better to run your own business or farm than to be an employee for a company. The advantage that we both really are after is the fact that you can rest in any given time you want. Of course you should be hands on to your business of farm but you can hire people or you can be the one to manage your time. Aside from that you own the entire profit. You can schedule your own vacation and holidays, you can earn more because you know the entire money circulation. I wish we have enough capital to use in starting a business but we just don't have. So in this times, my husband works under a company until such time we have a baby sitter and I will go back to work to. By having bigger income we can save for our future and our baby.

Yes. There is very rare case that working for somebody can get rich. Usually having the own business does. My hubby and me have this idea too but we just need to keep an eye open and save the capital to invest first. I wish everything good for you and your family! :-) Thanks for sharing!
