Scalping tickets

Last week at Staples Center, there was the usual collection of people across the street from the arena quietly trying to sell tickets (mostly to people who already had them lol). So here is my question. Have you ever scalped tickets or bought tickets from a scalper? If you've sold tickets that way, why? Because you ended up not being able to go? Or to make a nice profit? And if you've bought them, were you satisfied with the seats and the price?

i have bought them because i wouldn't have gotten a ticket otherwise. why? because the scalpers all got them.there are supposed to be rules about it,but they always get around it. was i satisfied? no.pay an outragous price, and still have nosebleeds. i tried getting one of those "free" tickets for ozzfest last year, and sure enough, they were selling the free tickets.i was so pissed.i know sharon and ozzy meant well, but it just ended up being pure profit for a lot of those guys.

Now that would really tick me off. It's bad enough that certain groups get preferential seating and such (at least at skating events the tour companies do) but then for somebody to suck up the good tickets and sell them for more money, well grrrrrr. And selling free tickets, double grrrrr....

exactly.if they do that again, they have to come up with a better system somehow. it wasn't fair at all.

Have the cops (undercover) comb the streets for scalpers, confiscate the tickets and give them out randomly to people waiting in line. If everybody did that, I'm pretty sure there'd be no more scalpers!

I've never bought or sold tickets to a really big event or anything. I did try to sell an extra pair of tickets to the state fair once, which is not a big deal cuz they're $10. We bought all our tickets presale, so got them at a discount. We bought enough tickets to go 3 or 4 days, and then decided we didn't need so many, we only had enough money to go 2 or 3 days. So we had 2 extra tickets. We sold them at the door for the same price we paid for them... so we got our money back, but the 2 people who were going to the fair that day saved themselves a bit of money. Then one time I was going to a Yankee game with a friend of mine (this was about 10 years ago). It was a last minute decision. I couldn't believe the price of the tickets! I think they wanted like $30 for decent seats, and maybe $15 for the upper level seats. So we ended up buying our tickets off a scalper. I was nervous because that was the first time I'd ever bought tickets off a scalper. I actually had to take the ticket to the counter and make sure it was legit before I'd pay for it! But we ended up getting 2 seats just a few rows behind home plate, and we paid a total of $30 instead of $30 a seat! It was a good deal and I was very satisfied. I have pics around here somewhere, but they aren't on the computer unfortunatly.

I was in London and they actually encourage people to get in line in case people bring tickets back. We got some great seats for Cats, same price as the theater's price. We also went to the box office first to make sure that they were legit. But there must be situations where the tickets get sold for more and it ticks me off to think I might be missing out on decent seats at the regular price because somebody thinks he can make a profit off of them.
