here are some quotes i found in the bible about women's rights:
1."Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives..."....Romans 7:2
2. "For the wife does not rule over her own body, but the husband does...".....1 Corinthians 7:4
4. "For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman but woman for man."....1 Corinthians, 11:8
5. "Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or have authority over men; she is to keep silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.".....Timothy 2:11
Its funny how the media portrays islam as anti-women yet the bible has even worse quotes that degrade women but no one considers christianity to be anti-women. i dont mean to be racist or anything. i believe in islam, christianity and judaism, i dont believe any of them are anti-women...its all misinterpretation. So whats the deal?

I don't give a crap what the Bible says. I'm not going to follow the rules of a book that was written thousands of years ago. Hardly any of its "lessons" apply to our time, and even the ones that do apply aren't taken seriously because people do whatever they want anyways. If people don't care about 90% of the bible, then why should they care about the other 10%.

You make some really interesting point. I've never heard TIMOTHY as quoted from the bible though ! As a developed civilization we have taken parts from the bible and re-written them via law.. ie, the fact that a woman DOES own her own body and yet some still cling to the bible as ultimate truth.... I find many Christian faiths to be hypocritical

You also have to understand what the Bible says about a man. He is to deal justly and lovingly with his wife. These quotes weren't meant to put women into an abusive situation it was meant to teach both men and women how to respect each other and that a man should take up his responsibility to protect and care for his family.

The Bible says a lot of things that were more relevant to the time it was written. There is still a lot of contention in churches who try to adhere to these verses down to the letter. Woman object when they're told that they aren't fit to teach men or that a woman belongs to her husband. Personally I believe it was just written to fit the mores of the 1st century. No 1st century man would have wanted to be part of a religion in which women were considered equal.

Adding to what the_vicar said, men do have equal responsibility to their wives, and to women in general. Many people were shocked that my wedding vows including submitting to my husband as the Church submits to Christ, and forget that he promised to love me as Christ loves the Church. I submit to the spiritual leadership of a righteous and godly man, and when he's not, he loves me enough to submit to my judgment. It is all a give and take. And in the world at large, the Church leaders (at the time, male) were specifically instructed to care for the widows and their orphans. If the Bible were so anti-women, why would that instruction be included?
