I can't believe it, just when I find some absolutely YUMMY pistachio ice cream - Blue Bunny Pistachio Almond to be exact - I wake up to hear that pistachios have been recalled due to a salmonella scare! http://abclocal.go.com/kfsn/story?section=news/consumer/recalls&id=6735630 The one bright spot is that the FDA didn't say we should throw away any pistachios or pistachio flavored products we have, but to hold onto them and just not eat them for a few days, when they're hopeful to have more information on the affected brands. The article I linked to ends with these words: "The FDA warning is a precaution. There have been no verifiable reports of illness as the result of the possible contamination." I've already eating several servings of the ice cream I purchased at Wal-Mart a few days ago and I'm still here. It's going to kill me to avoid eating anymore until I get the OK! What would you do? Isn't it crap that everything is being recalled all the time! UGH pretty soon we will not be able to drink the water. My ORGANIC cookies were recalled, now how could they be organic if the peanut supplier wasn't even approved to be a peanut supplier? That will teach me LOL

I think I saw somewhere that some of the things that are sold as "organic" really aren't. Basically, unless we grow and make everything ourselves we have no idea what's in it! Annie

I'm beginning to think we ARE going to have to grow everything ourselves to insure we're eating safe foods.

I don't think nuts do well in this part of Ohio, but now that I have ducks in about 5 months I won't have to buy eggs. My garden goes in about 2 weeks from now so what do you think, I need a cow and pig? LOL

Uggh! I almost bought a bag of pistachios a few days ago. Glad that I didn't waste my money. What will be next? Hopefully this won't turn into the peanut butter scare we recently had.

I sure hope not, too! I LOVE pistachios and I occasionally treat myself to some but the ones with the shells still on are so much work. You shell them forever to get a tiny little taste! Annie

I almost did the same thing when I went grocery shopping and was all set to buy a bag of pistachios also....now glad I didn't...uh, just in case. None of the stores seem to be pulling them off their shelfs though. I went into a store just today and all their bags of pistachios were still up...like huh?

LOL..I beat ya to this story by 18 hours...heehee...my hearing of it, is that ALL products with pistachios shouldn't be eaten and that would include cake mixes, cookies, candies as there's something like 2 million pounds worth of pistachios that might be contaminated.

I'm sorry, Pye, I didn't see your post about this or I wouldn't have started it! I'm still catching up from being away, so will you forgive me? Anyway, what do you think? Should I TRY to resist eating any more of my ice cream until I get the go-ahead? Annie

Heehee---do you know I'm still hesitant about eating anything with peanuts, or I haven't even gotten tomatoes in ages. From what I read anything with pistachios in it should be considered at risk...yup, even ice cream
