DO you still use a travel agent, or do you do all your plans on the net yourself? I sometimes do mine for myself if it is simple, but most often I use an agent.

I have traveled since 1997 to Canada, U.S., and Europe and I haven't used a travel agent in any of my trips. The last trip I had was a 60 day tour to Europe taking rail and going to more than 20 cities 6 countries and I did all the hotel bookings, train reservations and every minor details of the trip...and thank God I survived. It is not really difficult with the internet. You should try it sometimes.

Wow, what a great adventure that must have been! With that much practice you must be as good as a travel agent!

I do not have much money to spend for trip which is planned by a travel agent, so I need to save and plan the trip myself. This makes it more exciting, I realized during the 12 years I have been traveling. Oopps, although, there is one thing a travel agent does for me, I forgot to mention. I usually buy my plane ticket through a travel agent, since one time I tried buying it direct or online, I found it is much more expensive than letting a travel agency book it for me. I don't know probably that is how it works here in the Philippines, other than that, I book everything myself. Like the ticket i need from Canada-Europe..., rail tickets, hotels, tours, if I need one. It is fun and I get to research all the places I will be going, even learning how far one destination is to the other and the places I will be passing by. All the things a travel agent knows, I need to research myself..or what bus to take going to remote areas. Well, thanks to the internet it just makes things easier for everyone, even for a budget traveler like me.

In January I flew from London to Cape Town. For that trip I bought my tickets direct with an airline that I like. I compared the cost with the travel agent and other airlines. One other airline was the same price but the travel agent option was quite a bit more expensive. The airline I went on had a five hour delay and the other airline arrived on time after getting a wonderful close view of Cape Mountain another traveler told me. In the past I used a travel agent for my trip around the world and booked with an airline that did wonderful stopovers for my trip to New Zealand. I am an independent traveler and I usually book a flight and then choose my accommodation when I arrive. I often email one accommodation to book my first few nights.

I bet I haven't used a travel agent in at least 10 yrs. I find it much easier to get online and make the plans myself. I wonder if I could get a better deal using a travel agent, but I think that by doing it myself I am skipping the middle man.

I just finished making arrangements for a group of 8 to travel to Dominica this summer. It involves an overnight stay on the way home in Puerto Rico. I used a travel agent who charged $25 for her services. It was well worth that for all the time and hassle I saved.
