The Best Sermon.

Would you agree with the statement that the best sermon is a life well lived? For the followers of Jesus Christ,it is very clear that it is what their master believed. In Matthew Chapter 5, he refers to them as "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world". He reminds them that they must let their light shine so that people would see their good works and glorify their father in heaven. I have known those who were referred to as great preachers, but those I remember most are those that lived what they believed. They may not have been able to preach from a pulpit but they didn't have to, they were recognized as Jesus said they would be, by their works, for just as a good tree cannot bare bad fruit, so a true follower of Christ will follow his example. Words are cheap, and faith without works is dead.

Amen!~ Haha!~The last time I used the phrase "words are cheap" I offended the whole religious sect? Haha!~ Anyway, preacher or not, titles are just worthless as if one understands, when all come before him, even those with crowns will be casting them at their feet. Preaching through words alone is never as powerful as those who execute His word by the way they live their lives patterned to what He has shown us.And by the way, who said preaching has to be with words alone?

Hi zweeb, Thank you for responding and I appreciate your comments. A good speaker can be entertaining no matter what he talks about but that is as far as it goes. Some of the clergy are I'm sure sincere and honest men and women and that can be seen from their way of life, more than from what they say. Many others who never speak from a pulpit preach the best sermon of all. Blessings.

A life of another experienced by outside is not always the best sermon in my estimation. When just observed motivation, dreams, even success can only be partially understood. This leaves the interpretation to others who can only catch a glimpse of anther's life. That is why a person's writings and teachings are so valuable.

Hi savypat, I would agree that writings and teachings are valuable but I posted the discussion under Christian, because it's my opinion that how one lives says so much more about a person than what he/she says. To say that one should be honest is one thing but to be honest in your dealings with others proves that you are following that which you preach. Blessings.

But don't you think the reason behind the honesty is also very important? Are you honest because it's the right thing to do or because you fear you might get caught being dishonest. Is it the Christian way to be honest because it's right or because of fear of being caught? This was the point I wanted to make.

Hmm...very interesting. Maybe initially one might have the fear of being caught but then again if the right teachings have been instilled, then one can be as honest as can be? But even the fear of being caught is due to one's conscience which initially was placed there by God? Just thinking out loud

Yes, I agree with you totally because words don't mean anything is actions don't follow. I know so many people who go to church all the time ,but they don't follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus and all they do is to spread bad rumors about others.
