As is known, how important it is to master English.Vocabulary can be accumulated step by step.Grammar can be learned from the teacher.Writing can be enhanced through imitating model essays. But how to improve English? I have heard lots of sayings. For instance, dictation(write down what u are listening literally); seeing English films;listenning to MP3 of English essays on the bed before nights. Some specialists allege that it`s necessary to practise for at least 1 hours,as well as no more than 2 hours. Mylot friends,What`s your opinion about methods of improving listenning English? It may involve specific methods.Total principles are also welcome.

It is partially free. If you want to use more advanced topic you have to register by paying some money. Please verify the website. In my opinion, the free stuff is more than enough to start speaking English fluently. You can view some of his seminar in YOUTUBE also. I found the youtube is more interesting and useful Cheers!

I first started to learn English when I was in the 3rd grade. English is not my tounge language, but in school we started study it in the 4rd grade. I became very good at it from watching TV shows in English, and there were subtitles in my language at the bottom, so I started to learn very quickly and knew words that kids in my age are not suppose to know. Try my advise and learn from TV show, i'm sure it will help you a lot. Right now, i'm studying Arabic. It's very useful language which for my opinion people should know it where I live.

Thx for your comments. And I also found watching English TV or films avail! But some of my friends said that the method u mentioned is suitable or preferable for ones who have a relatively good base of English. As for this method,Can u tell me some details such as how to see the TV or films? I mean ,first listening and then see the subtitle,or at the same time? I will appreciate it.

There are many ways on how to improve English. I am teaching English to non native speakers and I know it's really hard. First, you must be motivated in learning the language. It takes time to learn any language, it isn't just by a snap of your finger. You have to be patient too. If you want to improve your listening skill, you've got to expose yourself to English materials. As you have said, listening to English songs or watching movies will help if only you will use what you have learned. If you just watch and listen and not watch it then it will just be a stored knowledge. One thing that I always tell my students is SHADOW LISTENING. If you want to sound like native speakers and listen like native speakers then you have to be familiar on their pronunciation. Americans don't have the same accent. An American from New York sounds different to that of an American who is living in Georgia. In shadow listening, you have to choose your favorite speaker, like for example Oprah Winfrey, listen to her everyday and try to adapt the she talks. Practice and use it everyday. I hope this one helps.

Hey there! I agree with practicing English. Practice makes you improve your skills and knowledge that you've learned. Good conversation with a native American is good. You will learn a lot from them because they are native English speakers, not the original speakers though. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

I would recommend listening to audio books. If your listening level tends to be low, start with children's audio books because the reader tends to speak more slowly for children and the vocabulary will also be less difficult. Hope that helps!

Hi friend, I have studied english for more than ten years, but my english is still not good especially listening. Two years ago, I join in a foreign company , after than, improving english is the basic demand. I also do some listening every day, but the effect is very small. Later, a senior enigh teacher tell me dictation is a good way to improve listening english. So, i started to do some dictations, actually, it is a good way. So, keep patient , insist to do dictation, listening english is not a difficult thing.

I was also very worried about this just like you.But now I have learned a new method to solve this problem. And it's very effective and efficient for Chinese students to practise listening, proved by many students like me. I'm afraid I can't say it very clearly in English. But the main idea is to find a good material, which you think is very suitable for you to practise listening English and then what you need to do is to listen to it again and again till you can know every word of it very clearly. But every time before you listen ,you should set a goal for youself ,for example, for the first time ,you need to know the general idea of the paragraph without referring to the listening material ,and for the second, you need to try to listen to what you missed out before ,and so on ....You can see the listening materials at least after you've listened three times ,and then you can read after it .You can pass it or listen to it even on the bus after you know it very well.I'm trying to express myself as clearly as possible I don't know whether you got it or not and hope it'll be of your benefit.By the way ,I learn this from one of my best teachers. He is an excellent interpreter ,named Sim Zhou.He is teaching in monotary.Monotary is the best and the first institution for interpreting in China .And he'll give a lecture in your school maybe , if you are inerested in that and free, you can keep an eye on it.By the way I'm not promoting .I'm just one of the many students of it ,and we love it very much and we learn a lot from it.haha~~

Great discussion..the use of the language is certainly important if not vital for aquiring a new language. There are lots of books and courses galore but surely the best way is to have someone beside you who can correct your mistakes. I mean..it is good to talk about anything you like but it certainly is simportant to have someone who can also correct your spelling and grammar.

Improving english is a long term work and you need to read newspaper daily and read novels and books, use dictionary everytime you don't understand the meaning of the word and always try to writing some articles too. Watch TV and movies regularly and try to rephrase what you hear in your own words. All the best.

Try to watch more english movies or tv shows. When you don't want to watch, just keep your tv open to bbc, cnn or even discovery channel. You can also try to speak to native english speakers to take a grasp of their accent. I hope I've given you some help.
