What special foods do you eat at Easter?

In my country we eat Easter Bun with cheese on Good Friday. This is a spiced sweet bun that is full or raisins and other fruits. Fried fish is also eaten on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday - anything goes - from Hams to turkeys to roast chicken. This year I plan to have a large roasting chicken and a small picnic ham for dinner. we wil also have baked sweet potatoes, home made macaroni cheese and lots of salads and veggies. Oh, and a potato salad too. What will you have? For dessert, I think that I will do a large apple crumble served with ice cream or cream. What will you eat for Easter?

Now I know that you are a Brit. I am a Brit but have lived most of my life in the West Indies. Have a great Easter, Baby Brit And remember to eat up all of your chocolate. It comes from the cocoa bean Therefore it is a vegetable and good for you. so clean your plate etc.

normally I eat turkey on easter, or if I cannot afford one then I will eat a ham. I am not sure what we will have everything is so expensive so I just eat whatever we got at the time.

In our family it's usually a ham dinner...with sweet potatoes etc....all the trimmings. This year I won't be really having an Easter dinner as the kids will be busy with my daughter in laws family....which is okay with me...LOL

Here in the Philippines we love cooking traditional foods namely pancit (Stir fried rice noodles) that we borrowed from the Chinese, sticky rice cakes sweetened with red sugar and with a little tang or zest of lime. In the provinces they love cooking pork or beef casseroles, you see during Good Friday up to Black Saturday there is a ban on beef and pork, we can only eat chicken or fish so people make a big deal of eating and preparing these dishes after just two days of fasting. Most of our casseroles have really rich sauces, anything from pork blood casseroles called Dinuguan (Bloody) and Calderetta which is either pork or beef with potatoes and tomato sauce. Other foods like grilled seafood and stir fried vegtables are also popular on easter. But the biggest things during this wonderful day is the Rice cakes that come in all shapes sizes and colors....Makes my mouth water just thinking about it...

As I am not a christian or a catholic, we actually don't celebrate it. But we use to have holidays for Easter, and my mum used to buy me chocolate egg as gifts, so my lil sister and I could have a happy Easter.

Chocolate of course and I like to have roast lamb dinner Easter Sunday, I also eat hot cross buns and can actually make them. But they are so cheap in the shops now it isn't worth it, I found a recipe where you make a bread pudding out of them using whisky, I'll have to try that out this year.

My mother always did a lamb with mint sauce and I loved it. Not much lamb in this country as they eat goat. If you don't make it with whisky then use rum. Have a great Easter

We don't do anything special for Easter. We have a ham, and whatever side dishes go with that. Usually we'll do mashed potatoes and a green bean casserole. One year I made bread in the shape of a bunny, and hollowed out the tummy and filled the tummy area with dip, then put out veggies around the bread for dipping. It was adorable and delicious. We don't plan on having company this year, so I probably will not bother to do something so complicated.

Hey cynthiann! I am going to make a turkey on Easter Sunday! My boyfriend will be working of Good Friday so he will by eating at his job. I will make the turkey with yams, veggies, biscuits, stuffing and I'm not sure what else. If my girlfriend is coming then I might make a roast beef too and see if she is going to make anything like her homemade potato salad and macaroni and cheese! And I will probably make a cake for dessert! My boyfriend likes this one kind of cake that I make that he eats with ice cream!

That's sounds so good. I love a stuffed turkey but my children don't! At Xmas I do both plus ham. I hope that your girlfriend does the other dishes so this will cut down on your work time in the kitchen. Have a great weekend and many thanks for responding

After a little fasting, wow so appetizing to eat the food we want to. Although no ham and other pork recipes as I have hypertension, roasted chicken will do and perfect with the chicken macaroni salad. Chicken adobo as well but for other members of the family they would be craving for mechado or menudo plus maybe sinigang (pork with tamarined soup plus veggies) grilled fish might be added as well. After easter for sure we will be gaining more pounds.

We normally have ham, a few sides, salad, and deserts. I am not really sure what we are having this year. Probably ham, but as far as sides and other things I have no idea right now.

Same as us. A ham is so easy to do and it stretches and stretches - especially if you cut it thin. I love a ham bone soup too. so maybe I will see if we can swing to a larger ham instead and a small chicken!

This discussion makes me a little sad. I have not had Easter dinner or Easter celebration in 3 years . I have been overseas in Egypt. I have been home for other holidays like Christmas and New Year's but not Easter. I am going home soon in April, but I will still miss Easter. My grandma makes ham every year. We also have mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, cole slaw, sweet potatoes, and biscuits. For desert berry pies and maybe an apple. I am really going to miss this but I already know the first weekend I am there my family will make up for it and have a nice dinner for me coming home!

Yum! I love Easter dinner and I cannot wait to eat it this year. My family has ham on easter. We also typically have potatoes, coleslaw, veggies, and rolls. We also have some kind of dessert. That usually changes each year. Although the dessert never feels necessary because we've all already had enough candy from our baskets. haha
