I would think a progression worked on with a health care provider or mental health provider would be the best, because depression cannot always be predictable. One could start with meditation, and journal exercises. Sometimes focusing oneself is enough to bring the stressors to relaxation, and journaling can be a good way to dump each day any of the stressors bothering you. Of course eating properly, exercising, and getting enough rest are important as well to over all good mental health. If these are not working one could try herbs such as St. John's wart. St. John's Wart must be allowed to cycle though, so it is typically taken for 2 weeks on and 1 week off, and continued until mental health is back to normal. A therapist would be my next suggestion. Sometimes it's just worth it to speak to someone who is the objective listener and may be able to help you work through your problems. There is nothing wrong with speaking to someone. Now, sometimes people have clinical depression which may need medication. There is nothing shameful in having to take medications for depression. This is your mental health, and one that needs to be kept healthy as well. Most doctors will start out with mild doses anyhow and progress from there until you reach a healthy state, and you're always working with a therapist when on medications. Namaste-Anora

One of the things I try to do is to take a breather, stare out the window and concentrate on happy things. It works sometimes -- most times it doesn't though

What do I think is the best way for depression management? Jesus. Letting go and letting God have His way in our lives. People worry to much and worrying is a sin. God says for us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us.

There is really not just ONE best way, as different things will be best for different people. Even for one person, they may need to change their way of depression management after a while, as it becomes less effective. Some suggestions, + talk about your worries with other people you can trust; a problem shared is a problem much diminished. + change of scene; if you get the opportunity, a holiday or staying with a friend, can really help or even a day trip to somewhere pleasant can all help. + go for a massage, shiatsu, aromatherapy (some oils can be very good for depression), or some other body or talking therapy. + and you may still want to go and see your doctor, as it maybe best not to work and so he can give you 'sick leave'... + watch some comedy shows on DVD or laughter websites or even go and see some live comedy at the theatre if possible!

Depression is a very common problem now a days. It is very much prevalent in the cities where people don't have time for others and live more of a mechanical life. The stress of professional life takes its toll on the mental well being of the people concerned. What I think the best way to ward off depression is to spend more of your leisure time with your family members and friends so that you don't get time to ponder about the matters that makes you feel depressed. Closeness to family is one of the proven ways of relieving stress and I am telling you from my personal experience. Hope my response helped you.
