Have you ever taken your kids to an urgent care/immediate care center on a weekend when the doctors office was closed? My son needs to see a doctor about his cough, but I really don't want to wait (nor do I think I should wait) till Monday morning to call his doctor. Do you have these places available where you live? Do you use them?

here in the uk we have NHS direct which is a free service to speak to a doctor or nurse who can then refer you to an out of hours doctor. I know its different in the usa tho. But if you are worried then yes absolutely it should be your right as a parent to get him/her seen.

This is an office that has later hours in the evenings and hours on Saturday and Sunday like most doctors don't/

Hopefully you've gotten it seen to by now. I have used urgent care centers. They're pretty good. Almost as fast as the doctor's office, so long as it's not busy, and definitly better than the ER even if it is busy. I've gone to the urgent care centers so many times, that I actually can't right now because we owe them a lot of money because they never charged me my $20 copay until I'd racked up a $200 bill.

I have not used any of the walk in clinics, but I have taken my son to the emergency room, when I did not want to wait to see the doctor. Usually, they will give a prescription for a couple of days to tide you over until you can get to the doctors. Hope your son gets better soon. I am still struggling with a cold myself, it is driving me crazy.
