When family moves closer to you are you happy about it or filled with unease? We are always happy if they are not across the street, about 20 mins. drive is close enough. That was each can still live separate lives in private but a close enough for visiting often.

I like some space too. I think that if my own parents lived across the street, I would be happy and so would my kids, but it would be too much for my hubby. He loves them dearly but he likes to be left alone. House guests can overstay their welcome with him. I think that I would feel the same way if it were reversed for me too. I would want my space with them too.

Hello Pat, I have heard the same thing from many people here in India as well, that family should not be too close and they should not be too far either. I am still a bachelor so I have not experienced anything like that till now. However, my brother is married for the past four months and we all live in the same house and it has not been a problem till now. I wish we continue to stay like this forever.. even after my marriage.. lol

I prefer them as far away as possible! Otherwise, they seem to want to live our lives for us. And we're too conveniently located as baby sitters. That's fine, as long as it isn't every day for months. I prefer distance. It makes it easier on my nerves!
