What are the stars about?

So i have noticed there are some members on here that have stars with numbers in them above the screen name. I put my mouse over it and it says something about reputation. I was just wondering~ What is the reputation all about? And why do some people have it and some don't..I thought it had something to do with your posts number but there are some with a higher number but smaller posts number...Who gives a reputation?

You have to have a 100 after your name before you get a star. The number on it has to do with things like do you rate the comments in your discussions, do you select a best response, and I am not sure what else. Someone who has been here longer can answer probably. I just got a star today! I was excited. You are getting there. Just keep discussing. And answering your responses.
