say you just met somone and you ask them if they have any animals and they reply "do you mean pets" is it safe to say "well i said animals cause you could have a fish, and a fish isnt a pet cause you cant pet a fish" does fish fall under the animal category?

I don't think we can categorize fish as animal. And can you have fish as pet? They are only good to look at in an aquarium.

Hahaha that's a good question. TECHNICALLY you COULD pet a fish, but it wouldn't be as rewarding as petting, say, a dog. :D Let's look "pet" up in the dictionary..."An animal that is domesticated and kept as a companion." I guess fish fall under that category, though I don't know why they would want you to specify "pet" as opposed to "animal". If the animal is at your home, and you own it, then yes, I meant pet. People can just be really picky with diction.
