Are you annoyed by silly discussion titles or are you amused by them?

There are some silly topics created for discussion here on myLot. I do not wish to give any specific examples in order to avoid singling any member out, but how do you treat such discussions when you come across them? Are you attracted to join in on the fun? Maybe you just ignore them? Do you get so annoyed that you would consider leaving a negative rating? I view the silly discussions that are started as harmless. Oftentimes they can be the most popular threads garnering the most attention and responses. For me, some of the titles are good for a laugh. I rarely enter into one and usually skip by them. Many days I just completely ignore them outright. What's your view?

I always try to look at things in the positive way and have fun in some ways whenever possible but there are some titles that really annoyed me. (Just like you, I don't want to give specifics for peace .) Most of the times though, I am neutral to the titles until I read the contents. There are some titles that seem annoying but when reading the explanation in the thread, we can learn that the thread starters have good reasons for choosing the titles.

You make a very good point eichs1. Sometimes discussion titles are provocative for a reason. Initial impressions don't always tell the story and many things can be taken out of context when you only get to see a portion of the complete picture. The old adage comes to mind; you can't judge a book by its cover Good post.

It depends, sometimes I join in and sometimes I just ignore them. I wouldn't give a negative rating just because I think the discussion is silly. I rarely give negative ratings for anything, actually. The most I would do is ignore it.

I rarely give a negative rating and I only use it in extreme cases. I don't believe that members should be punished for silliness or an attempt to add levity to the boards. If I am not interested, I just skip by. However, someone hasn't been enjoying my posts lately because my rank has been reduced over the last day.

There really isn't a whole lot that I could do about it anyway, so why worry? I am not even sure where or why it is happening. I don't think that I have done anything to warrant such treatment, but some members might disagree with my comments/opinions. I guess it is an attempt to stop me from posting a certain way? I have read other member's posts regarding such an issue and I have also heard that some members have a difficult time in the politics forum. I don't post a lot there, but perhaps that is where it is happening? I do check my interest rankings periodically and, ironically, my rank in politics has gone up and my rank in myLot has dropped way down recently. Oh well...

That's a shame, I don't see anything wrong with your discussions. I save my negatives mainly for people who are being truly hateful, but not everyone is like that. If you post any political or religious views that someone disagrees with, that can easily get you a negative, which I don't think is fair. I wouldn't worry about it, though, as it doesn't really mean anything.

What's my view? When I find the discussion mocking God I find it very offensive, repulsive, and foolish. I think it's childish and I try to avoid those discussion. I also try not to get hot and bothered from the blatant lack of respect for deity. The best things for me to do is keep the peace and keep it moving. Bless'em and forgive'em. Word to the wise answer a fool according to his folly or say nothing at all.

I know that when it comes to faith, things can get quite heated. I don't wish to turn this discussion into one about religion, so I'll try to tread lightly. You have touched on the issue of insult and sensitivity, which I think pertains to this discussion. I understand how you have been insulted and I think that you have taken a very mature approach to dealing with such an occurrence. The saying that you posted is poignant and thought provoking. I may even use it myself from time to time. Thank you. One's faith should easily be able to stand up against petty comments. If not, I suggest that it cannot be that strong. If God needs to be protected by man, than how powerful can he truly be? There is another saying that is too often ignored in our politically correct times: I may not believe in what you say, but I'll defend your right to say it.

Hmmm, I think I'm neutral on this oneI'm neither annoyed nor amused as I guess to some it's their style or nature of writing? It's the content of the discussion I'm looking for actually

Your writing style, which words you use or how you present them can be revealing. One's comments are clues to their personality. Cheers.

I have to say I just go with the discussions that interest me or a discussion that I can add something to. If a discussion is silly and it makes me smile then I am happy. I think we should all get a little silly sometimes and have some fun. You are right some of the titles are great and some really grab you and hook you in.

Some members are very talented when it comes to drawing eyes to their threads. One of the funny things that I have noticed is that the most successful of these posters sometimes get their discussion titles imitated. It can be provide for an even bigger laugh when you see how someone has tried to alter the title slightly.

Well, some discussions are serious. Some questions/comments require a different approach or level of thinking then others. That doesn't mean to say that everything should be taken to heart and I do think that fun should be a motivation for participating on myLot. Thanks for sharing.

Back when I started here, the topics were like monkeys sat and came up with them (I swear I mean no offense to anyone but back then it was just that bad here) but I found myself dealing with them and giving my two cents because I would get bored here with the serious issues and my own drama-filled discussions. I didn't mind them then and now I don't because everything doesn't have to be serious. Some topics here that were meant to be fun were fun to respond to..there was one where we were to list 25 or 20 things about yourself and I thought that was extra fun..so I say all that to say this is a huge improvement on the way things were around here...

I have noticed a marked increase in the quality of discussions since I first joined myLot too. It isn't just the more serious discussions either. Some of the less serious or silly discussions are very creative. I think that this is a testament to the quality of the membership on myLot.

i am usually alright with silliness unless overboard of dumbness.Silly discussions are lighter compared to the intensity from serious discussion.Mylotter who run out of ideas, tend to make silly yet simple discussion. But that is ok cause it benefits me in a way after getting tired of reading heavy and long discussion. It does our brain good atcually with an insert of silliness in our life.Hey ~why so serious? -Joker

it depends on how silly the topic is. there are some silly topics that can be tolerated, some can be of fun, but some really irritates. besides, we cannot please everybody. we all do have different point of views, right? it also depends on how you interpret their titles. ive never been good at giving my topics a better title. thats why i decided to rarely make one. anyway happy mylotting!

There are some discussions that I think are over the top or unappealing, but to each his own. People certainly do come in all shapes and sizes. Some titles can be hard to misinterpret. That is an interesting comment. Although you may be self conscious, I don't think that you should worry about improperly phrased discussion titles/questions? There are many members on myLot whose mother tongue isn't English and as long as you are able to get your point across, I think that is all anyone cares about. Cheers.

Well there are many different ways of "silly" discussions. If it's a fun discussion sure of course I would join in! But if it is a discussion that's against the mylot guidelines or I could see that in the future it would get deleted, then of course it would only be best to stay away from those kind of discussions.

You are absolutely right pweety. You have to be careful when posting because it can effect you negatively. If discussions become deleted, so are you posts within them and, therefore, your earnings reduced. Being familiar with the myLot guidelines as well as taking into account who started the discussion is advisable. Cheers.

I am quite new here and havent run across many of these discussions yet and im not sure how often they actually appear. However i believe that both silly and serious topics have a place on MyLot, different people want different things and from what I've seen so far that is MyLots strenth and what attracts so many people. No matter what you are into there is a topic and discussion about it. Sure somedays ill stick to my absolute fav interests or go on the hunt for something new, but at the end of the day aslong as they create an interesting discussion, im not fussed.

I share your sentiments. Perhaps there are members who think this is a silly discussion or that I have used a silly discussion title? Not everyone is interested in the same things. As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life. Cheers.
