How do you convince yourselves not to give up easily?

I was watching this documentary about the kids in China learning acrobatic during their childhood. Some of them are only 4 years old and you can see that most of them are suffering from the strenuous trainings. And yet, they push on without much complaint. One can say they have no choice, but to me, it is not that they don't have a choice but it is because they don't want to give up. I really admire their courage for pushing on, despite all the tears. For me, I always tell myself not to give up if I really believe in something. True, the outcome might not be the outcome which I like, but without trying, how would I know? That's why I always push forward and try my best, and never give up. I have friends saying that it's too difficult to do this and that, and they just give up like that. The fact is, there are many people who are waiting in line to do those things they've given up. They just don't appreciate the opportunities given. Ah well, that's life. I guess many people give up too easily because they just don't know how to appreciate the opportunities given to them. But what about you? Are you someone who gives up easily? If not, how do you convince yourselves not to give up easily, even when the odds are against you?

I only get to give up when doing anything actually doesn't make any difference. There are times that people give up in the middle of everything. I have done that before but, getting a second chance, I really didn't want to waste the opportunity. Its hard when you no longer have motivation but, you simply have to find your own reasons to continue whatever it is that you have already started.

So as long as you are giving up something worth giving up on, its okay. (^_^ ) Realizing and accepting that things aren't that worth it makes things a but easier than to have doubts and regret all about it even when things have already concluded as unfavorable as it is..

But I do believe that there are times when you simply have to give up on something so that we can refocus on other more important things in life. Ever heard of the book from Seth Godin called The Dip? It's quite a good book actually.

I am a person who never gives up easily in things that I do. Like when I am applying for a job, I tend to fail several times first before I get hired. In situations like that I never think negative. I always think of the reasons why I am applying and why I need to find a job. I stay positive despite the rejections I get because the only person who knows me well is none other than myself. In situations where people say they have no choice when they are experiencing hardships but the fact remains that they say that as an indirect way of saying they do not want to give up, I admire them because not all have the guts and courage to stay. I love challenges because they add color to our life and they give us purpose. So never give up easily because reward comes to those who wait.

For me, it's never about whether someone has a choice or not. Because I believe that everyone has a choice in life. There's no such thing as "no choice". If people keep insisting that they do not have a choice, and push themselves forward, it's not as good as telling themselves that they do have a choice and the choice is to push forward. It's a different feeling altogether where one is negative and one is more positive, knowing that everything is under his or her control. It is up to the person to manage it, not up to some unseen forces.

I have this rule imposed on me by me which says"NO QUITTING".I tell myself the happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything they have.

I usually try my best before giving up on something...infact people look up to me and accuse me of being tough headed but if I were not that way I would give up too easily on all the difficulties I have to face in life. My advice on giving up is that you should set yourself smaller goals that require less energy to achieve (like ladder steps) and reward yourself for achieving those steps. It is one way to keep up. As far as the chinese athletes are concerned...I would not be as sure about their perseverance...in china if you are not good at something the nation needs you become a bum or will work 20 hours out of twentifour in some assembly line (I've been told this by a real Chinese person)..so you think twice before giving up in China

I believe there should be an ultimate end goal and other smaller end goals for each milestone. It keeps us motivated and keeps us moving in the right direction. Imagine if you are asked to run for a long long time without any end in sight, I bet you will give up very fast.

Well i think it all depends on your mind set. Most people who give uP do so because they already have their minds settled on the fact that the task is difficult. Its ok for one to feel this way but i think its best you start what you know you can finish. The issue of motivation or drive as against givenup, to me depends on your level of interest. So i always build my interest before i get into any activity.

Exactly. I know a lot of people who will start saying something to be impossible without even trying it out! Talk about low morale.

i think it is not easy to convince our self's to give up easily because there are situation that we need to give up and there are situation we need to fight

I agree that sometimes it's a bit hard to strike a balance between the 2. But I also believe that if you are a self-motivated person who don't give up easily, you should know when it is time to call it quit especially when there's no progress whatsoever. It's better to refocus on something more worthwhile than spending your entire life on something which is a complete waste of time.

I'm looking forward to my dreams in life and it push me not to give up easily.. I value opportunities coming. just try and try until i succeed. God bless

yes it is one of the reason why too many of the people are giving up so easily because they are thinking the hardship and they are pushing their self to look forward by not trying the thing they are wanting in their life. sometime they want to get it by not doing any thing, i have also some people that i encountered too lazy to manage their life for the best, they are just accepting the fact that they are not meant to be. For me i want to do the things that i know i could get it and even i am in the hard times i still thing positively for i know that there will be the ending for the suffering.

Agreed. There are people who just accept things as they are. I do agree to an extent that sometimes, we have to accept things as they are and carry on with our life. But that doesn't mean we should put a stop to whatever we wish to pursue. Giving up too easily is definitely not my cup of tea.

I am a person who can give up to anything easily. Only things that I love very much that can keep me going and no one else can stop me. Now there are still things that I need to do and cannot give up easily, if it is something involve in other persons, I will try to convince myself not to give up. I might make others miserable if I did so. Yes, that's how I normally convince myself to continue doing something.

Sometimes, doing things for other people are much more meaningful than doing things for ourselves. :)

I have to be honest with you guys there was a point in my life that I easily give up. I regret the times that I let opportunities pass. But you can never turn back the hands of time. Right now I just try to be positive about things and making most of what comes my way and I always tell myself that life is way too short and never to pass up anything again.

I believe most of us have gone through that process where we just give up too easily. But the important thing is how we pick ourselves up from there onwards. Some people manage to climb to greater heights, and some, become worse.

will power and self motivation can boost the spirits of a person. when things start failing we start losing confidence and the will power loses strength. when things start failing even i lose self-motivation and then interst in my work. but believe me if i say ," i can and i will achieve. i am no less than those who have achieved it" then i get motivated to start it again. "my i can is more important than my IQ"

Things don't always go the way we wanted them to but I believe this is also part of the challenges in life. And it is what makes life so interesting.
