Tips to use google more effectively?

Recently my friend told me that i can use google search more effectively if i can follow few tricks. He was selfish and didn't tell me what the tricks are .Can anybody please help me with google tricks

I use plus sign for searches I am looking for. ex. Online Free+Coloring Pages. Carneige Library+Pittsburgh The Exchange+Pittsburgh I find it to give better results thats just something I learned from a friend
