This is going to sound awful but the worst gifts I have recieved always come from my sister. What my sister will do is make a donation to charity in my name. Usually its some eco-charity such as saving harbor seals or the rain forest. I never want to seem like I don't like it, because then I would seem like I don't care about the environment, but she keeps doing it year after year. It is like getting no gift at all. I mean, I feel like a rotten person just saying this but I'd rather get an actual gift.

I appreciate all gifts I receive not for its aesthetic or practical value, but more on the gesture, the thoughtfulness that counts. Even if the gift is ridiculous by my standard, I would still accept and appreciate it because it's more on the giver, not the gift. I usually receive gifts on my birthday, valentine's day, Christmas, teachers day, so I usually get gifts from colleagues, students and family members. I never tell them that I did not like the gift; that's rather insensitive and brutally frank of me. A simple thank you will already do.

The worst gift I received was MONEY from my 2 young daughters cause my husband was so lazy to get me a gift. I thought it was so thoughtless. I was really hurt and mad. I knew my daughters wanted to get me something and they knew what to get for me but my husband was so busy that month that he just decided to give my daughters money to insert in their b-day cards for me. No matter how busy I am I take time to get my husband something I think he likes or need eventhough he sometimes ends up not liking the gift I got him. I am also the one doing the returning and getting him something else that he actually like. Oh well he said he'll never do it again. See when I get money for my b-day or any other occasion it has no significant value at all. I wouldn't even remember what I buy out of that money. I don't know about others but for me "thought" counts a lot.

Hi errica...The worst gift I received was a candle set which I knew was a very cheap set. Since I already had something similar I returned it and got a whopping $2! Needless to say I will not be spending so much money on this person in the future but of course I said thank you and wrote a nice note.
