What do you use rice for?

I'm looking for any ideas for meals that use rice, both ordinary and exotic. Since it is such an inexpensive and healthy food, I would like to start eating it more often. I recently discovered Thai black rice and used it to make a rice-and-coconut pudding, which was very tasty for dessert or for breakfast! What kinds of rice do you use, and how do you use them?

I love sushi rice. Sometimes I cook up a batch just to eat it, without even rolling it with anything. But I do actually make sushi with it sometimes, too.

My husband is from Louisiana and they make rice for every meal. Everything they cook is put over rie. I nevcr eat much rice till I moved there. White rice is not as good for you as brown rice, but for some reason I can't stand the taste of brown rice, maybe just me, but I have tried it and don't like it. I think rice was used by the people in the south to stretch the meal out because of large families. I hve never seen black rice here. But you stated it is inexpensive, rice has risen in price here till a 3 pound bag is nearly $10.00 but at the General Dollar store, they sell a 10 pound bag for $4.00. I bought 2 this month when I got groceries, who knows what the price of it will be next month.

Yes, the price of rice has gone up just like the price of everything else. But it's still less expensive than other foods. Here, it's around $2.00/lb, which works out to 25 cents per serving. I keep an eye out for when it's on sale. I may also try shopping at my local Asian and Mexican markets, because their prices tend to be lower on just about everything, and I'd imagine that either place would carry rice.

Actually, I realized that I calculated wrong. The size of bag that we buy at our grocery store is $2.00, but it contains 2 lbs, so it is actually $1.00/lb and closer to 13 cents per serving. Cheaper than I thought!

we use rice as a staple food eaten during breakfast as a fried rice together with eggs, hotdogs or bacon. We also use for lunch and dinner. You can also use rice as a porridge when you are sick with chicken.

My wlife made a wonderful dish with pieces of cactus and ground breek on rice, with barbeque sauce and ketshup on top. That was really yummy! I buy the cactus from a local Spanish store here. They slice the cactus for you and put it into little bags. Please try out this recipe and tell me what you happen to think of it. It is now one of my favorite dishes!

I've never eaten a cactus before, but I know that it's available in several grocery stores around my area. I'm not a huge fan of barbecue sauce, but maybe I'll try the cactus with rice some other way.

I use rice for dessert especially to make all kinds of puddings. I also use it to serve with meat or fish. One of my easy favorite sauces that I use over rice is a sauce with hamburger meat and spinach. Very delicious! I add some lemon juice when I serve. It's very simple and cheap. Take care.

I don't use rice so much now a days my husband thinks of rice as being for puddings only like rice pudding that sort of thing. I just love fried rice and sometimes would use wild rice which is very expensive and takes longer to cook.Rice is also good in soups and sometimes I would add to casseroles. Cheers.

Actually, if you want healthy meals for rice, you should NOT use white rice. It is really bad for you, and is loaded with carbs. I always use wheat rice in my recipes. You can be creative for using it in foods like stirfry, chinese or japanese meals, and so on. So just be careful, white rice bad, wheat rice good, black rice for pudding sounds like a different idea, I might just have to try that!

The black rice is a little more expensive, but it's worth having once in a while. It's a whole-grain rice with the bran still intact so it has a lot of fiber and contains some other nutrients as well. It has a nutty, slightly sweet flavor, similar to brown rice. By the way...as far as I'm aware, wheat and rice are two separate plants, and I've never heard of wheat rice. Do you mean brown rice?

I like rice alot and use it in many different ways. I like to cook brown rice and make homemade chili served on top of the rice. Whenever I have leftover chicken or pork I will mix it up with some rice, broccoli, soy sauce, ginger and sesame seeds and have a quick stir fry. When I lived in Belize we would cook up red beans and mix in with rice and serve it as a side dish with chicken. I also love homemade rice pudding with fresh fruit mixed in it and topped with cinnamon or nutmeg.

Here in the Philippines we have so many varieties of rice. We eat a normal variety of rice in our daily consumption. If their an occasions we use glutinous rice to make our delicacies like biko, suman and many more. Some used unpolished rice because they believe it is more healthier. If we have leftover the other night we make it into fried rice for the breakfast.

We eat rice everyday here so I don't really find it exotic or whatever. There's a lot of way to cook rice. Use coconut milk on white rice (more ingredients add here) and you'll make 'nasi lemak'. Various recipe can be try with only white rice. By the way, since we eat rice everyday, to eat brown or black rice can be costly.

If you are experimenting on some recipes try to look for or search for some of our delicacies like "kakanin" or "Suman" they can be made from rice. And they are delicious too.

Rice is a staple food here in our country that is why we love to eat it. We sometimes mix rice with margarine for added nutrients. It is believed that it helps make children taller. Aside from that, we mix rice with various viands and sometimes turn it to fried rice.

In this part of the universe rice is the major food. Both lunch and dinner do not pass off without rice. However curry of different items accompany it. The major use is plain rice but you can make different recipe out of it. Just know anything. Even if you wish you could make bread and cake from rice.

we always cook rice every meal per day. rice is our staple food. this is where we get our energy. without rice in our meal, we get easily hungry. if we get hungry,we cannot perform our tasks during the day or work. how to cook it, we simply just boil it and when it cooks, we eat it together with vegetables or pork, or fish, or chicken. it depends upon you what kind of viands you want to combine with plain rice.
