Unable to open an MP3 file

I have Vista and I have not had any problems downloading music until now. When I attempt to open an MP3 format file through Windows Media Player or any other I get a message similar to this one: Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file. The strange thing is that I have always been able to do it until now and I have not made any changes at all. I have downloaded lots of music in the past without any problems at all. Does anyone out there have any ideas as to why suddenly I cannot open MP3 files? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

some times it won't work because it has some problem like virus so scan once your system so then everything will set right for you.

Maybe you should get a codec for audio. It works on me. You should try it. Have you used winamp?
