I find myself sometimes reading a discussion and although it may be really good I may not respond to it I think I read just to be reading and learning about other people! Is it rude for me to read and not respond I always rate the discussion just not always respond to it!

It isn't rude if you choose not to participate in a discussion. Many of us choose not to participate for a variety of reasons. I often just read a discussion without posting anything. Sometimes because one or more members has already made the comments that I was willing to offer and I don't wish to be repetitive. Sometimes I am only in the discussion for help or to read the advice. Sometimes I don't think that I have the required expertise to respond or give advice. It could be because I ran out of time to finish my response and I wasn't able to get back to it. There aren't any obligations to post and you aren't required to rate every discussion that you enter or all comments that you read if you don't want to. Happy myLotting.

I always rate a discussion as long as I feel they made a effort and its not just one or 2 lines I will rate positive I never rate negative if I feel it wasn't very good I just do not respond or rate it.

And here i was thinking only i do that! lol Most times i read discussions and move on without responding( will remember to rate this one though ;) ) if i feel i don't have anything to contribute to the topic at hand(which explains the extremely low number of posts i have ) or if my response would require more time than i can give. I do feel like a voyeur at times..lol but hey, i enjoy reading more than hammering out a response.

Hi sxrxnrr, I tried to read all my discussions and respond to everyone but there are discussions about making money on other sites that I don't resppond to as I have no idea what they are on about as I don't go to any other paying sites, so those are the ones that I skip. Tamara

No I don't think its rude- you either have something to say or your don't and that's okay. I have read and not responded myself- it isn't that I thought the discussion was bad- it was that what I would add had already been said and covered- so I didn;t want to repeat others. Good Luck and happy mylotting!

I do this pretty often, actually. Sometimes I just enjoy keeping up with the community on myLot and seeing what others have going on, or what others think about issues in the world. When I feel like I have something to add to a discussion, though, I usually respond. I don't think it's rude to read and not respond, especially if you don't know what you would say. I sometimes find that reading others' discussions inspires thought in me that might not make for a good response back, but is enriching just for me.

I do that too. Often I will read a discussion but not respond to it. I will usually respond if I have something to add or can help someone out. Sometimes I won't reply if I do not feel I can add something useful or if I have little knowledge of the subject being discussed. I always will rate any discussion I read though.

I have to admit that I do that. If I don't have an interest or know anything about a topic or don't have anything to contribute I just dont. I don't think it is rude. We all have topics we like better than others.
