Just wondering how many people would allow there kids on this site? Some of the topics I see I find unsuitable for a young teen. But then again I think maybe young teens should be on a site like this compared to a site like facebook or myspace. So would you allow your teen on mylot? Are your teens on my lot? Are you a young teen say under 18?

Keely- This is the link to a discussion that was started two months ago on the topic, with some pretty good responses from parents: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1914744.aspx I tend to be like you and don't feel that these types of sites are suitable for those under the age of 18. I have children from my first marriage and they are not allowed on any of the social networking sites. I think it's best for their protection. There are too many pervets, pedophiles, and dangerous people online, and it is our job as parents to protect them. Teens can feel this is unfair, but to me it is no different then setting a driving age, a drinking age, etc. Somethings just come with age. Namaste-Anora

Yes, I mean anyone under 18 shouldn't be on these sites. If you need extra pocket change there are safter ways to make it. Things that parents may feel safer about. Though, personally, I don't think my children should have to work. My older children from my first marriage don't work at all, and get all they need and want. Namaste-Anora

I don't have kids at home but as this is the most cleanest site available on internet, I would never disallow them to do mylot. Kids and teans are getting knowledges about bad and dirty things from internet and mylot is better than sleepassault.com If there are any mature content which you don't want them to see, then don't allow them to see mature content by advising them to not check allow mature content in the profile page!

I would allow them on this site long before I would allow them on Facebook or MySpace. I would still monitor their activity though.

Possibly. If it kept them socialised, connected with other people and well maybe earn money then yes. But as you said, some of the topics arn't usually suitable for teens. So on that, I would say no.

I don't have children but my niece and nephew are 11 and 13 and although I might let them read some of the things on MyLot I wouldn't let them have their own account and I wouldn't let them on here without strict supervision...there are some discussions, images and profiles that just are not appropriate. If I had teens on a site like myLot or any other social networking or forum site, I would still want to monitor them. Any site, even myLot has some pretty adult conversations that I just don't think are appropriate for teens, but there are a lot of good people here too and much friendship and knowledge to be gained. As with any other activity teens need to be monitored.

Mylot is fairly tame compared to many of the other discussion boards I've come across over the years, many with teenage members. If I had anyone under 18 still in the house and he/she wanted to participate here I would allow it but some topics would be prohibited.

There are thousands of sites where kids can gain education. I for one think that this site is suitable for youngers who can post their experience in many fields in many ways freely.Kids can read the posts but can't contribute much. If mylot can create exclusive site for kids, it would be a great idea since they have all the resources.

If I were a parent I would allow my teens to be here. I think the site is very friendly and very educational. And at the same it will give them extra money. So all in all I think that MyLot can be beneficial to teens in many ways. I'm only 21 by the way. So practically I' also a teen. Hehe! Happy MyLotting!

Hello Kellymcilwain, I would indeed allow my teens (if I had any) to join MyLot, as it is an excellent network for learning and comprehension. Admittedly not all of the topics are necessarily appropriate or politically correct, but that is a growing concern everywhere on the internet and certainly not an unavoidable one. Also, MyLot takes large strides to review and take down content they deem inappropriate for viwers. It is not a website I'd recommend to 12 or below people, as their mind is still developing (that's not to say teens' minds aren't either) to the point where they are susceptible to almost anything. The slightest inappropriate site or article they could imitate, which no one appreciates. I think a quick talk with your child(ren) is a necessity before using the internet, but simply restricting your children from accessing MyLot or other is a deathtrap. Obviously they're going to find ways around your barriers, so simply building them with no backed reason are grounds for consequences. Thanks for starting this discussion! -Fresh Writing

Why not? Teens today are more smarter than what we think. they know much than we do. Now If my teachings are so that they could differentiate between good and bad and could avoid that, then there is nothing to worry about.
