Suicide or Sheer Stupidity?

Question Mark - I thought this was a neat pic. It is a human question mark.

This girl came online tonight and claimed that she had ingested 18 aspirins. I looked up some information on aspirin overdoses. According to my quick research, she needed to call 911 immediately. She was exhibiting all the signs of possible pulmonary edema. She claimed that she was not trying to kill herself but get rid of a dreadful headache she had. I was finding it hard to believe that she wasn't trying to kill herself. Then again, I read some more of her profile and she didn't seem very bright in the first place. Which would you believe? Was it suicide or sheer stupidity? Livy J

It depends...did she agree to call 911? Some folks aren't too bright...about medication as well as other things. Taking 18 aspirins does sound really dumb though.

She did end up calling 911. Well, that's at least what she said before signing off. I hope that she is alright. Yes, it is extremely dumb. Maybe it's just me but it would seem common knowledge not to do something like that. Then again, I am also biased because I have had medical training as well. Livy J

Yeah she looks pretty darn stupid and not just because she took extra amount of aspirins, but also because a person self medicating to heal bad headaches or any kind of aches, is actually trying to kill the symptoms of some harmful disease before even letting the doctors diagnosing it and make it far far worse. I too take aspirins some times but I never take more that one or two and that too when its unbearable. However if the pain doesn't stop even then, I just get an appointment with my doctor. That's much more helpful. Hope that girl's okay. Take Care God Bless YOU

I used to take asprin 6 at a time, not on an empty stomach, but it was the ONLY thing that touched the headaches - until I discovered that naproxen didn't have corn starch
