Deathly Hallows broken into two movies: Good idea or Gimmick?

I have heard from several sources that the producers of the Harry Potter film franchise plans to break the novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" into two movies. The stated reason is to do the book justice. Deathly Hallows was most certainly a book full of events and action. It is arguably the most entertaining of the series, and an appropriate ending to a wonderful series. To fully cover the events of Deathly Hallows, perhaps the producers should make this a two part series. Otherwise they may be forced to cut out important and fantastic scenes from the book that will leave the fans feeling cheated. On the other hand, do you think that this is a poorly disguised attempt to squeeze money out of a very profitable series that has come to an end? Joanne Rowling has made it very clear that she will not extend the Harry Potter series, so this final book is the producers' last opportunity to cash in on the franchise. Which is it, do you think? Are they being respectful to a great novel or are they milking the cash cow?

It is a good idea to do two films, both to be faithful to the book and to keep all the fans wanting more but I still think that it is all about the money. The entertainment industry works like that after all

Don't know the reason, but from what I recall about Deathly Hallows, there was a lot of wandering about the countryside doing not much of anything. Seems to me they could have condensed a large part of that and made just one movie.

I am sure money had something to do with it and for them to say that they are only doing it to preserve the integrity of the book is laughable. If that were the case they would have done it with other releases. I'm still chuffed about them delaying the release date so they can get more people into the theater. Trust me, people will find time to see it if is as good as expected.

Well I can see doing the final movie justice but, geeze do you think they will wait a few years to release the final part of the last movie? I wouldn't want to wait 2-3 years to see the end.

I wouldn't mind it too much if they wouldn't cut so many of the scenes out of it...

they are being respectful to the series. as a film enthusiast, it is necessary to show the important parts and not cut it. otherwise, it will just generate disappointment from the fans---especially those who have read the books.

I think that they are being respectful to the books. One of things that would always irk me about a couple of the movies was how much that they left out from the book. So im glad that they are breaking it into two movies because i think it will let the plot be fully played out. And its also nice to have an extra movie to look forward to as well :)

They should have done that starting with the Goblet of Fire... so many important aspects of the books were not included because they had to squeeze everything in one movie... so i thing splitting the Deathly Hallows into two movies is a good decision... But of course... the producers also want to cash in on more money... since two movies would mean more money...

I personally am glad that they have broken it up into 2 movies. There is just way too much going on is this last book to try and squeeze it into one movie. I mean, what could you cut, really? Plus, you have to have a certain amount of flashbacks to things that have already happened, and that's just more material. I'm sure the producers know that profits are going to be huge and that didn't hurt the idea, but so far, I have been pretty impressed with the quality of the movies and how much they have stayed true to the stories. I'm hoping that integrity will remain throughout the last of the movies.

well,i rather they split the novel to two part, than only to see they cut the important part from the novel.. i already watch the trailer and i think this movie is one of the best in all harry potter movie.. other one that i really enjoy watching are the harry potter and philosopher stone..

I think it's a good idea that it's actually broken into two. That way they'll be able to present more details that the book has. It would be more visual to all Harry Potter novel fans to see at least 80% of what was on the book.

I don't think it's easy to display a wonderful ending for the audience and show their fully respect for Rowling, so they just make it into 2, which costs much at the same time. But I think it's deserved.

i honestly think it was a good idea to split the novel into two films. Deathly Hollows is not like the other books, where in the movies you could skip parts so they wouldn't be as long, so many parts of DH they need to put in the movie so it all makes sense. So i'm glad that they are splitting it up, i'd rather see two good movies than one hastily put together, very long one. I want them to put as much content from DH as possible in the movie, and if it takes two films to make that so, i'll be glad to pay the ticket price.

i'm really glad theyre doign this. this book was in oone word : EPIC it was truly an amazing book the best int he series and also the longest. to full get the story int a movie, you'd either have to make a 4 hour movie or make two, decent movies like 2.5 hours each. i think them doignt his will give the final chapter int he harry potter series it's justice and fully show the amazing story behind HPATDH
