i am catholic and had gone to a catholic school but it was never explained why of all animals a rabbit was chosen to be the sign of easter. and why eggs? and why does the rabbit have to look for the eggs? is it necessary that the eggs be painted?

oh, okay. i wonder how that tastes. we don't eat rabbit in our culture but i hear it's a healthy meat alternative.

If you went to a Catholic school, I'm not surprised that you were not told about these things because as the previous posters have said, they are pagan symbols without even a veneer of christianity. I can't imagine a Catholic teacher explaining the real meaning of the Easter bunny

yeah, it is frustrating. anyway, they probably chose not to tell the reason for the bunny since it is pagan in origin. i would know if they taught us. i was best in religion and i got a ribbon for that

Being a Pagan holiday originally both the egg and the rabbit are symbolic of birth, rebirth...its this time of yr that the Earth is waking up, being reborn and coming back to life..Animals are comign out of hibernation, or flying back from being south during the cold months...many animals have recently had babies and so on...

Isn't it strange that Easter has little or nothing to do with religion especially jesus. Its a paegan holiday named after the godess Eostre. She is associated with fertility and connected to the hare and eggs which of course represent new life.ie "breeding like rabbits'.The date of Easter is also nothing to do with Jesus its determined by the phases of the moon. The first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring of Equinox.....So what a load of religous balony.WE HAVE THIS HOLIDAY AND HAVE FORGOTTEN WHY WE CELEBRATE IT...WHAT A SHAME..
