World wide news channels are showing this clip ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WlqW6UCeaY (Please ignore comments on you tube) ) Did he really bow and brought shame to the fellow Americans or is it just a way to show respect.

Well I usually don't endorse anything Obama does, because he is the worst thing that has happened to this country in decades, but bowing is a gesture of respect used in many cultures. Bowing as a respectful form of greeting in oriental countries as well, but for some reason, American cultures did not adopt this custom. Most Americans prefer the handshake as a form of greeting. My view on this issue is simple. If you are meeting with someone whose culture bows as a form of greeting, I say use both forms of greetings. I see nothing wrong with it. Another option would be to base it on where the meeting is taking place. If the meeting is taking place in America, the handshake could be used. If the meeting is taking place in a country that prefers to bow when greeting, it would be a nice gesture to respect the local customs...

though I've not seen thast clip but had read in a newspaper about it, i think it was a gesture of respect and flexibility america is trying to convey to the world, he was the one who made the first move to meet and greet the primeminister of india, and then he was the one who with american tradition shaked hands with carla the wife of one of his counterpart rather kissing her the way their(carla's) tradition is to greet people.
