Here it is 8:00 am on Good Friday, in Central Missouri. It is raining but I am still going to get some potatoes out. I plant mine in barrels so rain doesn't matter a whole lot. I bagged up some of the soil last fall and stored it in my basement for this spring. I will place my potato seed in the barrel and cover with the soil I bagged. Then the rain will be good for them. I would be interested in hearing how you use the weather to enhance your garden.

If it is the large forty gallon can I would put five or six hills. This should give you about five pounds of potatoes.

I am glad to hear you have mild enough weather to get some tatters in but here in New Brunswick Canada we still have snow to deal with although at the front of the house the snow has gone and the lilies and crocus have started sprouting. We still have a month or so before I will be planting things and even then we have to watch for frost and cover anything we have planted.

We sometimes have a late frost here and then we have to rush around and cover things to keep them alive.

This would be something good to grow as we Love potatoes and are always eating a lot of them. I have not tried to grow potatoes since growing up in IL. Not even sure if I know anyone around here who does do this, if you can as wet as the weather is here. But these were always a fun plant to check on.

Yes, I can remember doing this before, and would be a good idea to possibly consider. I am going to suggest this one to my husband with the used tires and then go from there.

Another way to beat the wet weather is to stack a couple of used tires and fill the inside with dirt, plant the tatters in this. I used a used an oak whiskey barrel one year and cut it in half but digging was tough. With the tire just tear them apart (Unstack) and the tatters are right there. I do all my gardening in raised beds as the drainage is so bad here in this sub-division.
