Well this photo is not of the typical Easter Lily. It is a shot of one of my 100 or so different Lilies that have started to spring from the soil. I was doing yard work and spotted about 40 or so breaking free. I replaced the leaves/mulch as we still get below the freezing mark at nights. Won't be too long I can finally remove all the stuff I used as ground cover/mulch for the harsh winters. Do you have any Lilies growing at home? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I am not a big fan of lillies if I am honest, I just find lillies a strange flower. Plus I was always told that lillies are dangerous to cats and so I would never put them in as I do get the neighbours cats coming in my garden, not sure it would go down well if I poisoned their cats hehe!!

That is sort of a myth actually. It would take about 25 lilies eaten at one time to harm a cat from what I've been told by plant specialists. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Nope GRANDPA BOB...it's unfortunately no myth about any kind of lilies. According to this website even the smallest amount ingested by a cat is harmful--- {Warning NOT a referral link but a link to the article} http://www.cfa.org/articles/lilies.html Here's an excerpt from the article The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is leading a nationwide campaign to warn cat owners about the dangers of Easter lilies and other variations in the lily family. "Easter lily (Lilium longiflorum), Tiger lily (Lilium tigrinum), Rubrum lily (Lilium speciosum), Japanese show lily (Lilium lancifolium) and some species of the Day lily (Hemerocallis species) can cause kidney failure in cats," says Dr. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, Veterinary Toxicologist at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. "Unfortunately, all parts of the lily plant are considered toxic to cats and consuming even small amounts can be life threatening." Within only a few hours of ingestion of the lily plant, a cat may vomit, become lethargic or develop a lack of appetite. These signs continue and worsen as kidney damage progresses. Without prompt and proper treatment by a veterinarian, the cat may develop kidney failure in 36 to72 hours. Cat owners should remove lilies from their cat's access and are encouraged to consider safer alternatives such as Easter orchids, Easter cactus, Easter daisies or violets.

No, we don't have any lilies growing at our house. I think lilies are so pretty. My father in law used to live on the river and at times there were so many, really too many, water lilies.

I love Easter lilies. At my old church they used to put Easter lilies up by the pulpit once it got around the time where places started to sell them. Yesterday in Walmart Easter lilies were stacked up close to the ceiling where people first walk in to get a cart. I love them.

I love them as well. But I prefer mine in my yard more so. The Easter Lilies won't survive the cold winters here so I don't buy them. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I add some type of mulch over all my flowers as we get very frigid here in Minnesota during the wintertime. Leaves, grass, or plain old wood chips. Whatever I have handy at the time usually. Sometimes it gets below minus 20 degrees. It protects them from getting too frozen and dying off etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I've got orange daylilies out front, and in the back. I had some lovely stargazer lilies, too, but something got them last year and they didn't do very well...

I've also got a lot of Yellow Daylilies out back and one apple tree is surrounded by them. Those need to be moved this spring as well before they choke out the apple tree roots. I was just outside doing yardwork etc, my Beebaklm and seedums and phloxx are all coming up as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

The only flowers we have growing here are some pretty yellow daffodils. They are in front of the house and there are a few of something out by the mailbox. I am not sure what those are yet. They have not bloomed yet.

Well as you know I live in an apartment, so alas no garden. But I'm going to start gearing up on film (still a film camera user...LOL) since a ways down my neighborhood it's like a whole different world with two family homes with spectacular gardens ...can't wait for the lilies to be in full bloom, which should be during the summer months

I have a lily at the side of the front of the house but I need to clean out all the weeds, leaves and ivy over there. This fall I will plant some at the other side where there is more room. I hope to put some annuals in there in a few weeks then will plant the bulbs this fall.
