Why is the Price of Ipod going up when there is a recession

My husband just bought an ipod. We live in Canada and he got if for $250. Now when I looked through the fliers I noticed that here it has gone up to almost $270, a difference of $20. Now I do not want to get one for a year (since that will be the time when my husband has to mail his to Apple for a new battery and then he can use mine until it returns.) Both of us are interested in audio books, although we have different tastes. Now I am talking about the basic iPOD not the nano or anything like that and i was wondering if the price increase had to do with an improvement of the Ipod itself? I would hate to see it go up to $300 in a years time.

Wow, that's a big jump! I bought my son one for Christmas last year and it cost me $149 here in the states at Walmart. Food prices are going up, too. When I went to the store the other day, hamburger helper--which I don't use but I keep an eye on the price as a benchmark--had gone from $1.29 to $1.69 in just a few weeks! Everything is more expensive, just when we have less and less money to spend.

I thought it was a new and improved Ipod (I am not talking about the nanos, but the original one that holds 120 gig and enough for all my audio books - and I get them free and then some.) I wonder if that what a recession is that they lay off people so that people do not spend money and to give them an excuse to raise prices. Maybe it is the old belief that unless you belong to a certain upper class you cannot own a house, or only those who are professionals are allowed to own Macs, etc. so they raise the prices so the ordinary working and middle class person cannot afford them. I wonder if that will happen to the internet, they will make the price go so high that the only way is to get it is if you are a doctor or such or if you go to University.

I suspect that much. Here in Canada it does not matter what class we were born in, we can still make enough to buy houses, but I heard that in other countries, it is not the same. If you are a working class, you are not allowed to buy a house. So I do think this recession was engineered. or maybe they thought Americans were not saving enough and made the prices too high or it could be it was engineered by the global warmers so that we would find it too costly to not just heat our homes but buy anything that was shipped.

That certainly isn't inconceivable. There has been class warfare going on for decades, despite everyone saying we are all equal. I personally think this recession may have been engineered to put everyone in their place--whether they like that place or not. Then again, maybe I'm paranoid.

Wow. My sister got me an ipod for Christmas. It's really cool, pretty basic. It holds 250 songs. She got it for 80 dollars.

My husband got his because his hands are so bad and it was easy to use and he likes to listen to audio books. But I was wondering whether they were going up or not. I do not want to buy one in a panic for fear it might go up I do not mind getting one if that is new improvement model, but if it is the same one from last year, I would not like to pay more then I should.

I think it is great to have an ipod because it can contain lots of songs and it is too easy to carry. I hope the cost of ipod comes down in the future.

I think price of the most of the electronic things should come down rather than go up. Long time ago the price of the computers and mobile phone were very high and cannot be brought by middle class. Now it has gone down so that middle class family could easily have one. I think the price of the IPOD also should come down rather than go up. If the price of the IPOD comes down only people like me can buy it. I love to have an IPOD of my own.

I was thinking because America is going through a recession and when that happens the things go up and the wages go down. Apple is imported from the States and the only thing they do here is to make the manual in English and French, and I think it has something to do with our dollar. My husband's Ipod is almost full up, but I do not want to get mine until I got the Imac or the Macbook pro because in that case, I can use the Itunes no matter what computer I have, but else I would just be able to use the Windows Itunes.

i don't think the ipod classic has some major improvements aside from its capacity. though, it is still saleable and most people are reverting back to the old classic because of its reliability and capacity to carry a lot of data. we still have the classic ipod here in our country and the price have not gone up.

That is why I wondered why it went up. I know I can get it at The Source here for the old price, but that is only until the 15th of this month and besides I already did my charging for that month and did not want to put anything on it. I know that I could easily transfer some money from my savings into my checking and be able to pay for it, but with the economy being as it is and the interest rates being so low, did not wnat to do that. That is the one I want, the classic Ipod and I had no idea if it went up because of the American dollar going down or no. I was planning of waiting until next year to get one, but if it does go up any more I might have to get it sooner. I know I can use my Air miles as I have enough points to buy it but what if we decide to go on a trip some place?

Apple isn't in a "recession". I would wait until Christmas, they always go down then.

So why did the price go up $20 if that was the same Ipod?

I am willing to pay for improvements, for instance if I find out that they started the new model in Feb. 2009 and now they are in stock and they are getting rid of the 2008 model, that I will understand as they might have added things to it that were not available last year. But if it is the same model that was around last year, I want to pay less not more for it.

It depends how many GBs (Memory) it can hold. The less GB it has, the more money it will cost. All you really need is a 4GB ipod if all you are gonna add is audio files. It should hold like 500 songs.

I meant to say "The less GB it has, the less money it cost"

Probably because they are not selling as many the price always goes up when demand goes down.It costs more to make them with the price of energy and raw materials. It is a shame but that the way it goes,So unfair.x

Well, most big businesses like Apple, want money, so even though there is a recession, they don't care, they just want the money.
