This song made me think of those men who are so irresponsible that their daughters have to quit school and take low wage jobs to help out the family. It is all about irresponsibility and how someone else has to pay. In this the father is more interested in having a good time and making excuses why he cannot work, too old, wants to enjoy himself, and he has affairs with other women, thinks himself a man, but his daughter who should have gone on to college, has to quit school and make a living to support him.

Yes, that is what the first part is about, but I think the song then goes on to say that she "marries" into the same situation where she still takes caer of herself, and her significant other. Maybe the fast car symbolizes what she feels like she should have done, but instead she is still living the life she didnt want... What do you think?
