Hi. I am 21 years of and this time around I am going to cast my first vote ever for general elections of member of parliament form our region. I know I was eligible when I turned 18 but I don't think that there have been any vote in my region like that from that date. As far as I know, these are the only elections that I have a right to vote in, and thus I am going to do this this time. But I don't know anything about the parties here and the candidates here. I have read a few emblems on net of different national parties but there is no info on regional basis. Can you tell me how to decide whom to vote for? What do you expect from the politicians after they win?

i dotn go to give my vote, as i think that any party may come the conditions will be same almost, no one here is working for the betterment of people and for the country, its their own interests and views that they are all fighting for.....i am not inflenced by any party as such and so u can call me a person fully disinterested in politics.

Yup, short and simple indeed, but right or wrong? I think wrong. We all should vote and believe me we have a chance of making it count.

First of all remember what politician means. Poly means many and tics are blood suckers. From there check out their past history as much as possible and disregard what they say during campaigns. Many times they will do and say any thing to get elected. But their past will tell you more than what they say. You have great privilege and responsibility To know what your voting for.

Hi. Don't know how much their past can reflect of them as well. There is this one of the most celebrated politician named "Lalu Prasad Yadav". He was involved in all those scandals a couple of years ago and now as "rail mantri" he has made Indian railway a profitable affair for government, which previously was under debt for 17 years running!

Man, if you are looking for a pure politician, then you will have to go 50 to 60 years back, but at that time we didn't have elections like this (though I wasn't there at that time); so you can go, just meet them, and come back. Though we have not progressed much in development, politics has manged to progress itself to status of profession or business :-)

How I do it is try to find the candidate who will do and your family the happiest. If they say they will improve the health service, schools, ect and you like the sound of that.Increase the minimum wage and things that will do you best.Remembering that quite a few politicians lie through their teeth and hardly do anything they promise.Just make sure they want democracy as that seems to work extremly well in this country as in other parts of the world.Good luck with your choice.xxxx

Hello Raj, From the politicians???? ( They are not politicians but politicking creature ) I expect more communal clash, more nepotism, more misuse of funds, more corruption, more mud sledging and more blood shed as they are after gaining power only not for a good governance. You might think me to be a pessimist here but just fancy and you will arrive at the right conclusion.

I believe our votes can. I have seen a lot of pre-poll compilation of voter banks and sort of things and seeing them I can say, if we really put our mind in and then vote, then we can make any candidate win or loose, no matter how strong his command is in that area.

This is not the only election for which you will be eligible. There will be state and Panchayat elections also.. As for voting, it is wrong to ask someone publicly about this. You will always get wrong and biased information. You are 21 now, and an eighteen year old are supposed to understand all about this. Then let me suggest you. Vote for any party but keep in mind that you are voting for a national party. Forget about the problems that your area is facing, think broadly as this is a general elction. Local issues could be dealt with when state and panchayat elections will happen.

Hi. Yes an 18 year old is supposed to understand all this. Just think about this in this way... A boy, who is a B.tech graduate (means he can easily read and write) and have a star showing 10 out of 10 in front of his name, in a worldwide community (mylot, which means he can actually think on his own) don't know much about it. I would it is be3cause of the way people think about politics and the politicians actually act. Had politics been a good domain, I would have had more knowledge about it.

I haven't criticised you... You are a B Tech...undoubtedly the worst degree in India. Like you, those so called Engineers try to show how important and intelligent they are. It does not matter whether it is IITs or NITs or some cheap private colleges, they all are producing thousands of sheeps every year. I am saying this because you are degrading politics in referece to your degree. Politicians has done much more than those engineers who do nothing but coding and declare them as Software Engineer....

I didn't took your response as a criticism, but your comment speaks a tougher note. Well dear, to me B.tech isn't the worst degree...remember we have many bachelor degrees not called as technical even, like....BCA, BSC, Bcom etc, etc and it is really unfortunate for me to compare my degree with these to prove its worth, which again happens in India and no where else. Can you tell me why?

Hello coolmarlaraj. If they win, I wish them to do more for the people, like welfare, employment for the people, especially for the college students and those who are laid off. I think that economy is more important they should care about than anything else...

I only have one suggestion. That is please check their backgrounds. Many candidates are convincing not only because of their looks but also because of their achievements. Try to check their performance if they are aiming for reelection. If they are newcomers, try to look for their background like involvement in organizations, their contributions to the community, and of course their behaviors. They should be the model of our society. Of couse I have lots of expectations for the politicians. I am going to mention only a few. Good expectations: they will fulfill their promises like serving the people to the best that they can and setting as good models in our society. Bad expectations: they are going to engage in corruption (not all but mostly) and they are going to use their powers to achieve their personal goals. Nice tpoic and have a nice day!

The problem with our country's election is that once a candidate we voted looses his election then your vote has no value in creating Prime Ministers. So, even If I want to vote to congress I can't because they don't have any candidates from my place. I am a die hard fan of Congress because but my vote will not help them. let's see which party I will go for. Til now no candidate has come to our area in need of vote from us.

I don't have been given a manifesto yet by any of the candidates. Yes, just recently I have come to know that Shekhar is my candidate. I don't like him as my candidate as well but since I am going to caste my vote for the party not for a candidate so,.. let's see what happens.

It depends on what region you are, really would have suggested you the best choice if you had mentioned the area you reside in..lol, still i would suggest vote for N.D.A rather than going for parties doing vote bank politics, or they will continue to buy vote from them and in return make them stronger and stronger. India though free in reality, belongs to them.

Unfortunately when it comes to politics we are often faced with choosing the lesser of evils. To make an informed choice you should try to find out everything you can about each person running for office to see who has a good track record and who has the best interest of all the people at heart. Just remember that political leaders are imperfect humans who are not always equipped for the challenges of the job and sometimes do not live up to your expectations. Try to keep realistic expectations and make informed decisions and know that even if the person you choose is not elected or does not live up to what you hoped that person's time in office is temporary and soon they will have to win the vote again in order to continue. Politicians are faced with a huge laundry list of issues when they enter office and more arise along the way. They can not fix all of society's problems and people have to take some responsibility towards helping themselves and they have to be active in their communities. Good luck!

Hi. I agree with you that they certainly have too much to live up to, but had some of them even tried to do that, people won't have been complaining this much about them. When you know that you have too much to do then you should not make promises in the first place.

It is true that many make promises that they can not ever hope to keep and they are aware of this fact when making those promises to get elected but people will always have something to complain about even if you are doing things right. In fact they complain more; think about it.

It's due to the state Government's policy. You can check out more about this. If you wanna, I shall give you all the information in detail.

Since this is a Lok Sabha election, try to vote for a party which can form a govt on its own. Coalition govt are often blackmailed by their partners and don’t last the term. So try avoiding small regional parties.

Hey coolmailraj I reverse this question to you. As far as my experience is concerned you do not expect anything from a politician as they will not do any thing except delivering their lecture. I am not against all politician , it is also true that there are few politician who are highly regarded in public but the number of such politician is less. To cast your vote it is your right being a citizen of India you must cast your vote but in return you will not get anything from your candidate. pkc3000

To be honest, right now I only want someone to remove RESERVATION from India. I know it will be difficult for anybody to accomplish but then leaders are chosen to do the things that are hard but good for the community. As far as the thing that to expect anything from politicians is foolishness, I would say, you still have to keep your hopes alive.

hey...its poll time in india & Me too is voting for the first time. I would not go with the party politics while voting as most in our country do. I think people who are well educated, have a vision about the development of the country should get elected to the parliament so that they work for the upliftment of the fellow people & not for themselves.Hope I will find my ideal candidate & will vote for him. Thank you for the question..I wish that everyone should vote this time for a better India...
