Hello ajithlal. I have a young colleague next door to my office, who is crazy about chatting, playing, doing stock business during working hours. I used to ask him to spend more time on his work instead of doing those things unrelated to his normal work, but he would not listen to me though he agrees with me. He just cannot help. I am worried that once he is discovered by the boss, he (my boss) would not be happy with him (my colleague). But anyway, I have done what I can to help him as his next-door office mate as well as good friend...Thank you for the discussion.

I would be very tactful. I will not tell him, that he has to work, but how about showing him what you got by working hard? For instance if he says lets go to the cinema or to the Soccer game, tell him you cannot, you are working and when he comes to your house or flat and sees what you have sort of admit that you paid cash for it, and did not have to charge it.
That will make him realize that if he wants something, he has to work for it and if you show him how much you enjoy working it will start his wheels going into motion and get him thinking. You have to make him want to work.
