Celebrating New Year only for fun & merriment?

Every year we celebrate New Year and spend lots of money for enjoy & merriment. Is there any deep inner significance of celebrating New Year?

There are a very few days in a country like India where people from all caste and religion have a common cause of delight and where we can all celebrate and wish each other. So New Year to me is the most gala day of the year.....

New Year fr me signifies welcoming new opportunity for the coming year. It is like Graduation Day, saying goodbye to the past and saying hello and embracing the new challenges of life.
