What is the best format of an attractive Resume?

I have worked for 14 years, and have worked for different companies. I am currently unemployed, and planning to apply for a job again. I am now updating my Resume, but I think the format is quite outdated. I have not updated it for 7 years, anyway. Here is my current format that I have been following all these years. 1.0 Personal Background 2.0 Educational Attainment 3.0 Employment History 4.0 Seminars and Training 5.0 Character References Now, I am thinking of placing the Educational Attainment before the Character References. This means that the Employment History will be on the second part. I feel that the interviewer may got bored if he will not see my Employment History on the first page. What do you think? I know I can search that at Google, but I just want to hear some opinions from you. So what do you think is the best best format of an attractive Resume? Thanks.

on the very top you need to provide your name, address, phone #, email, etc. you need to tell them who u are after all. and if they consider hiring you, they need to know your phone #. ;-) your personal background and purpose is good at the top. it shows a sense of your character and the type of person you are. since you've been working for a long time, you should place your employment history next. the purpose of this is to show the big guys what types of job you've had and at what level is your skills. educational attainment should be placed closer to the bottom, right above your personal references. you education after 14years of work is very insignificant. your history of working shows how capable you are for the job, not your education. good luck!

Actually, that's also how I look at it. I think my long work experiences matter more than what I finished in school. I am happy to have one to agree with me. I just hope to hear other voices here. Thanks.

It is always good to select the resumes from the internet because they are always updated. The interviewer will not get bored in which ever way we give the resume because he will be looking for what he wants and not what keeps him interesting. I always prepare my resume by looking on to the sites. All the best.

This time, people will put their name, telephone or cellphone number, email at the very top of the page and then career objectives on the first part...I am following this and I agree with you, they are very eager for the Employment history so I guess it is ideal to have it on the first page of our resume!

So far, i have not written any resume at all.. lol =D But i did learn it in school though.. Your format is fine for me, but maybe, u should start off with some of your strong points at the start, in order to impress interviewers.. Education level is a must, and followed by your working history, placeing either your latest or highest position, at the very top.. hehe ^_^ As for background wise, state more of your strong points while keeping your weakness short and sweet.. As for training and seminar which u have attended, it will add on as extra bonus which u can have it right afetr your employment history ^_^

Hi, Other than having a written resume, you can have a video presentation that introduce yourself to the officer of the company. I saw that some online job websites allow job seekers to upload their own video for the employers to look at. It provide you a chance to speak to the company.

The first thing you should have on a resume is what your goals are. Potential employers can see what education you had and how good you were by your grades, they can see where you've worked before, but they want to know YOU. They want to know how you would fit into their organization so it's good to put your future goals right up front, like what you want to do with your education and where you'd like to be in the future. I'm not a resume expert, but I've typed enough when I was self-employed a long time ago before becoming a typesetter and proofreader. The most professional resumes always had goals listed above education or work history. Good luck!
