Hello friends,i'm in need of urgent help. My hard disk is not accessible. About 3 days ago, i started my pc as always and there's this chkdsk is checking your hard disk for errors. Now i have been through this many times. I let it check. And then after the checking, my pc restarted. And then there's a black screen saying "Error loading operating system". Ok still fine. I've been through this too. I decided to reinstall windows so i put my xp cd inside the drive, the files got loaded and then on the page where it asks "select drive", there was this message. 15626mb(my 160gb hard disk) hard drive not accessible. Setup cannot continue. Summarizing, my hard disk is getting detected but its not accessible. Please help me. Thank you.

Try put the hard disk inside another pc. Set it as slave and start the pc. Make sure the hard disk is supported by that pc. If it is accessible while inside Windows, try use disk checking utility by opening the hard disk properties. Another disk checking tool: http://www.paehl.de/checkdisk.zip If it is still not accessible, I think the hard disk is damaged by Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Another way try use bootable disk utility for checking, repairing etc. -http://bootable-cd.qarchive.org -http://www.ultimatebootcd.com -http://www.ubcd4win.com Try format the hard disk if possible, last solution. Then install Windows. You might want to check this guide, Repair XP : http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm By the way 15626MB = 15.25977GB, less 1 digit.

Thank you, Thanks a lot. It feels great to have someone correcting me, I guess you don't want me to go wrong.... Well thanks for all of your suggestions. I had my exams so I needed my pc up and running. So I finally called the man from whom I had bought it. There seemed to be no problem. Actually he took my cpu with him and then came back the other day (today actually). He said there should be some problem with my keyboard. Obviously he didn't know what the problem was... Well leave it... Thanks a lot for your post...

Is you computer a desktop or laptop? Do you have a back up already in your data? If not, try to use Norton Ghost to boot to cd and browse your files and copy to another partition of your current disk. 512 megabytes for RAM requirement if processor is Dual core or above. 1 Gigabytes for RAM if Pentium 4. You should delete all the files using NTFS Disk and reinstall windows operating system

If it is getting detected means, connection between your motherboard and HDD is good. Problem may be with your hard Disk, like bad sectors. BIOS is detecting your hard disk and not able to find the staring point of the operating system. MBR might have get corrupted. How many time you tried to install? Please post the little more details like exact message displayed in the screen, etc.

Try the following. 1. Try to connect your Hard Disk in some other PC as secondary hard disk 2. Check whether it detects or not 3. If it detects try to install the windows from that computer.

Not to be alarming, but this is exactly what happened to me when my hard drive fell on the floor (that was a bad day). But, if your PC didn't take a good knock recently then try this: If you have an IDE HD, make sure that the jumpers are in the right places. Try using a friend's drive (that he doesn't need or use) and see if it reinstalls then. As a last resort, try reformatting the whole hard drive, instead of just reinstalling XP.
